As an experienced Highways Maintenance Engineer, you will have a varied workload, offering engineering solutions for highways carriageways, footway resurfacing and drainage. Working in a growing economic region, you will help to maintain and implement the council's highway infrastructure and improvement schemes.
What you will be doing
Using your knowledge and experience of highways and legislation, you will manage work from start to finish, taking on projects with specified budgets and briefs, including scheme design.
It will be your responsibility to supervise on site, to ensure works are completed in accordance with specifications.
You will ensure all works undertaken are within budget and design, with the settlement of final accounts with the term contractor, or an in-house service provider.
The role involves a mix of office-based administration/design and site visits, coordinating with contractors and stakeholders on the highway network, including construction sites.
What we need from you
It is essential you have a degree or equivalent, and a professional qualification in an appropriate discipline.
You will have considerable relevant experience and be chartered or have incorporated membership of an appropriate institution.
We require you to demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of highway works and maintenance and be conversant with relevant legislation.
It is essential you have an in-depth knowledge of health & safety, highway construction and maintenance techniques, CDM Regulations and the Traffic Management Act.
It is desirable for you to have experience in local authority processes and Autocad.
What you need to know
This is a full time role, working 37 hours per week.
You may be required to work outside of normal office hours and must hold a valid driving license.
In exceptional circumstances, the qualification requirements may be waived if considerable relevant experience and personal capabilities are demonstrated.
