About the role The Engineering Director is responsible for the delivery and development within a specific product area of Quinyx. Each product area is led by a Product Director and Engineering Director together, who are both responsible and accountable for the roadmap and delivery in their respective area. Each area has a number of multidisciplinary delivery teams which will be led and guided by the engineering director from an engineering point of view. A team typically consists of one product manager, 2 backend engineers, 2 front end engineers and 1 or 2 QA engineers and has design capacity. The Engineering Director is responsible for the engineering part of the team where the Product Director is responsible for the Product Management and Design capacity of a team. The Engineering Director reports to the CTPO and will have between 20 to 40 engineers in their product area. We have a hybrid working set up and therefore you will be required to attend our London office twice per week. What you’ll be doing Member of the R&D Senior Management Team (SMT), and responsible for the management of the software development & delivery of a product area, contributing to the achievement of company OKRs. Approve/challenge product proposals as a member of the SMT. Oversees all development initiatives within the product area. Works together with the Product Director to establish the roadmap which will be balanced between long and short term goals and includes both functional and non functional items. Uses in-depth understanding and experience of software development lifecycle methodologies to enable the product area to deliver complex, integrated products at pace. Define the Product Area Development team’s procedural strategies, driving the implementation of best practices and utilising appropriate measures and KPIs to ensure production efficacy. Work with the Engineering Managers providing expectations of the required amount of resources and their quality. Collaborate with Engineering Managers and Staff Engineers to resolve resourcing conflicts and performance challenges in case those arise. Responsible for the budget for a 20 to 50+ strong team of frontend, backend and QA engineers across multiple offices and countries. Provide leadership, direction and mentoring to the Product Development teams across multiple areas & locations, including offshore. Ensure that there is a scalable and repeatable delivery process which is clearly communicated and followed across the various development teams. Work with the CTPO and R&D SMT to understand the company vision, and contribute to the overall product strategy, integration and cross and upsell. Highly commercial, Accountable for the contribution and impact on Quinyx P&L and performance of the Product Areas. What you’ll bring to the team Excellent leadership, motivation and team development skills, able to cross boundaries and collaboratively drive excellence through positive change. Cohesive leadership to ensure development teams are aligned across the department. Excellent communicator able to communicate at all levels and adopt a flexible & consultative approach. Ability to think strategically whilst achieving results in the immediate area of responsibility and drive strategic and change initiatives to success. Ability to think creatively and exploit best practice, emerging technologies and fast-paced innovation. Able to adapt to a changing business and market place, demonstrable ability to take a holistic view to support Corporate as well as departmental strategic objectives and underwrites production excellence through KPIs and best practice across the group. Demonstrates sound judgement and decision making, with focus spanning business, shareholders and performance of the company in addition to the department. Ability to drive change programmes across the business, the department and ensure the product area is aligned to achieve best results for the company and shareholders. Pragmatic, objective, resilient, transferrable, balanced, and able to navigate and manage product area contention to the benefit of the group. Externally focussed and highly pragmatic in order to drive results for Quinyx, company performance, shareholders, the PD function, our teams and then their area of focus. What’s in it for you?
