At Hillbrush, we are a family-owned, fourth-generation business renowned for our high-quality cleaning and hygiene products. Operating from modern premises in Mere, Wiltshire, we are seeking an experienced and motivated Engineering Manager to join our team.

About the Role

As an Engineering Manager, you will take a hands-on leadership role, overseeing all engineering operations within the facility. Your primary focus will be on mechanical and operational engineering, ensuring the smooth functioning of mechanical systems across the factory, facilities, and moulding departments. You will be responsible for day-to-day maintenance, troubleshooting mechanical issues, operating machinery, and managing service contracts, supplier relationships, and facility infrastructure. While electrical skills are beneficial, they are not essential.

A key aspect of this role is driving efficiency, reliability, and continuous improvement within engineering functions. You will work closely with the Health & Safety, Facilities, Product, Brushmaking, and Mouldings teams to optimise production equipment and facility systems.

Working Hours and Benefits

This is a site-based role, working 44 hours per week, Monday – Thursday 7am to 4:45pm, and Friday 7am to 3:45pm. Salary £40,000 per annum.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Engineering Manager to take ownership of key operational functions, drive continuous improvement, and play a pivotal role in the ongoing success of our business.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and implement best practices in engineering strategies, policies, and procedures to enhance operational performance.

Provide hands-on troubleshooting and problem-solving for mechanical systems to ensure operational efficiency.

Oversee and manage the operation and maintenance of various factory machines and equipment.

Ensure the reliability and upkeep of facility infrastructure, production machinery, and mechanical systems.

Develop and manage project plans to ensure key milestones and targets are met.

Identify and coordinate capital investments in equipment and engineering improvements.

Maintain accurate engineering documentation and procedures.

Minimise downtime by addressing and resolving facility and system issues in a timely manner.

Manage tool room operations, including personnel, projects, and manufacturing support.

Maintain strong communication across all levels and departments within the business.

Promote and support Health & Safety best practices, with a willingness to undertake further training such as NEBOSH.

Skills & Experience

Strong mechanical engineering background with hands-on experience in troubleshooting and maintenance.

Ability to operate and maintain various factory machinery.

Practical understanding of facilities management and building maintenance.

Proven ability to work effectively in a dynamic and diverse environment.

A proactive approach to driving performance and continuous improvement.

Knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, or PFMEA tools and techniques.
