As the Engineering Manager for Public Platform, you'll be a highly empathetic manager and a role model for others in the company and in our community. As a leading voice on a cross-disciplinary, agile squad of designers, product managers, and other engineers, you'll oversee our community products that impact developers daily and shape the future of one of our highest growth development efforts. You’ll work within the Community Products organization, responsible for our flagship Q&A product on stackoverflow.com and the broader Stack Exchange Network. What you'll do: Develop, drive, and execute the long-term technical vision and strategy for the Public Platform, including stackoverflow.com. Constantly improve team deliverables by adapting, maintaining, and evolving modern engineering practices and procedures. Deliver Stack Overflow's community product features, functionality, and tooling to end users and customers (both internal & external) in a predictable manner with a focus on customer satisfaction and technical excellence. Manage, lead, retain, and grow a globally distributed team of engineers, delivering feedback and coaching consistent with our core company values. Partner closely with product engineering, reliability engineering, data platform, design systems, product management, marketing, and other internal partners at Stack Overflow. We expect to see: A track record of leading and mentoring developers. You are eager to teach others and invested in the growth of your team. Self-motivating, self-directing, and a great communicator (written and oral). You thrive in an environment that grants you a lot of autonomy to explore creative solutions. Excellent problem-solving skills. You excel at analyzing and solving problems by guiding your team to the correct solution. In order to provide technical guidance to your team, you'll need extensive programming skills and experience in C# and .NET or other similar strongly typed languages and web frameworks, with a track record of getting stuff done. 8+ years of full-stack web development experience with any major server-side stack, relational database, and modern front-end (JS, HTML, CSS). Experience in our stack is a plus but not a requirement. Expertise with cloud-based architectures, such as Azure, Google Cloud, or AWS. Experience transitioning teams from on-premise to cloud is a plus but not a requirement. Experience with Agile methodologies such as Scrum, XP, or Kanban. You've been on teams that practice Agile and understand why it benefits the team. Knowledge of how Stack Overflow works from our blog, podcasts, and other public artifacts. Ideas about how to evolve the platform and/or a track record of engaging with the developer community (such as on Stack Overflow) are even better. Living and working within GMT-7:00 (US) to GMT+2:00 (Europe) time zones. We like to see (but not required): Experience with building high-scale, community-based web applications with 6-figure monthly unique visitors or more. Skills working with large amounts of data or utilizing machine intelligence are a plus. Experience working remotely and/or working with teams that are distributed geographically. An active Stack Overflow profile, open source code, example projects that you’re proud of (whether open source or worked on at a previous job), or any other evidence of your passion for building great software.
