The successful candidate will ensure that the daily workshop plan is executed and the needs of the Operations Department are met with the required number of safe, compliant vehicles available to deliver the publicised service. You will promote a collaborative and inclusive working environment. You will be responsible for leading a team of engineers to safely and effectively maintain a reliable fleet. What you'll do: Lead and manage the appropriate shift to ensure all working practices are being carried out effectively, safely and with the correct tooling. Ensure vehicles are serviced and maintained in line with company, manufacturer and legal standards, including quality checking vehicle inspection standards and rectification. Carry out regular Engineering Development Reviews with all team members to discuss their performance, training, behaviour and attitude, ensuring that team members are progressing and reaching their full potential. Embed the principles of the OPERATE framework and instil a focus on continuous improvement. Ensure the correct tooling and specialist equipment is sourced and available to all those who require it, including maintaining fully stocked shadow boards and ensuring all tools and equipment are accounted for at the start and end of each shift. Manage the conduct of your team through consistent performance conversations and, where required, holding disciplinary meetings. Ensure the workshop is kept safe, clean and tidy and that the required pre-use tests on equipment and tooling are completed. Work collaboratively with the Workshop Planner to plan and prioritise the required work. Manage absence and undertake return to work interviews and sickness absence meetings with your team. Certify vehicles as serviceable in accordance with all DVSA requirements after engineering intervention. Feed into technical any engineering improvements such as modifications, safety checks or service instructions. Ensure all work assigned, allocated and completed is recorded correctly in line with Company Policy to ensure that maintenance records are full and correct. Allocate work to Technicians to minimise vehicle downtime. What you'll need: Basic IT Skills. Minimum of 5 years experience in a vehicle maintenance environment. Successful leadership or mentoring experience. IMI Level III Bus and Coach Engineering & Maintenance or Equivalent (including Heavy Vehicles) IRTEC, or equivalent, Master Technician certified, in BAC / Heavy Goods or a related subject. Competent in the use of relevant diagnostic equipment and programmes. IOSH Health & Safety qualification (or above).
