Shift Maintenance Engineering Team Manager (Mechanical)

Schedule:

2 Days & 2 Nights, 4-off rotating

Location:

Bury, Greater Manchester

Salary:

£52,859 + benefits and overtime paid at premium rates.

Overview: Very low staff turnover within a group of 40 factories. Great training and development opportunities with an excellent culture and working relationship between the 26 Engineers at the site. A fantastic attitude to flexibility, work-life balance, and your wellbeing.

This is a great opportunity for a Maintenance Shift Team Manager to work at the company’s manufacturing plant in Bury, which has produced construction materials and products for over 100 years. The site is a heavy manufacturing plant, providing a challenging environment for our engineers with a range of material and aggregate processing, mixing, conveying, and some heavy pressing equipment.

Responsibilities: As a Maintenance Engineering Team Manager, you will lead a small shift team in delivering site production plans by ensuring optimum availability, performance, and ongoing improvement of site machinery, plant, and systems. You will manage your team to achieve engineering team KPI’s while ensuring adherence to all health and safety requirements.

Your duties will include:

Contributing to site maintenance planning activities through our CMMS system. Supporting engineering stores personnel to ensure the availability of engineering spares for maintenance plan delivery.

Qualifications: We are seeking an experienced people manager with proven experience in supporting the development and improvement of maintenance colleagues through structured performance reviews, appraisals, situational management, and training plan coordination. The role has a mechanical bias, but an appreciation of electrical maintenance and the ability to lead a multi-skilled team will be advantageous.

This is a great time to join the team, as we have exciting plans to improve our mature maintenance environment through the adaptation of reliability-based maintenance practices, condition-based monitoring, and the introduction of a new CMMS system.

Key Required Skills: Excellent fault-finding skills. Qualified, time-served apprentice trained in a mechanical engineering discipline (ideally to NVQ level 3, HND, or similar). Proven experience of leading, motivating, and developing small maintenance teams. Experience in automated, fast-paced manufacturing environments. Experience in hydraulics & pneumatics is essential. Recognised safety training (e.g., IOSH or NEBOSH). Forward-thinking and planning work/improvements. Knowledge of Continuous Improvement and Engineering Best Practice systems & processes would be beneficial.
