The School

This School, part of a large academy group, is seeking a passionate English Teacher to join their team in Smallfield, Surrey. The school supports children aged 6-11 years who have communication difficulties typically associated with Asperger's Syndrome and Autism. The School is closely linked with another of their local sites and both share the same Principal and Head of School, though each location has its own Assistant Head and team of Teachers and TAs. Additionally, a full therapy team is on-site to support both staff and students. While the sites operate independently, staff and students do cross between them.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop and deliver engaging English lessons that cater to the diverse needs of students. Foster a love of literature and language among pupils, encouraging their creative expression and critical thinking. Build warm, caring, and supportive relationships with pupils, ensuring they feel safe, enjoy their time at school, and are ready to learn. Collaborate with the wider team to support the cognitive, social, emotional, behavioural, physical, and spiritual development of pupils. Adapt to the varying and changing needs of the school to ensure its smooth operation, including occasional physical intervention (full training provided).

Requirements:

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent is essential. A degree in English or a related subject is highly desirable. Ability to Teach English up to GCSE. Experience in a special school environment is highly desirable. A passion for working with children who have special educational needs.
