Horsham District Council is looking for an Environmental Health & Licensing Assistant to provide technical and administrative support to the Environmental Health and Licensing department and assist in the provision of an effective, efficient, and economic service for the Council. As an Environmental Health & Licensing Assistant, you will be the first point of contact for members of the public, businesses, and other organisations, providing technical advice and guidance on environmental health and licensing functions. You will help determine if requests for service are actionable and resolve issues where possible within the appropriate legislative framework or arrange for further action to be taken. Additionally, you will make recommendations concerning the granting, renewal, suspension, and revocation of licences/permits to the Head of Environmental Health and Licensing, and issue licences/permits. You will also be responsible for an individual caseload in relation to a specific technical specialised area of work, providing information and answering queries appropriately within the legislative framework. About you
To succeed as an Environmental Health & Licensing Assistant, you will have a proven ability to communicate with a range of people from different backgrounds, including ethnic, social, and professional, both verbally and in writing. You will have experience working with a diverse group of people, preferably in a customer-facing and team environment. You will be a competent IT user with the ability to use and develop different packages and systems. Additionally, you will have proven organisational and time management skills, along with an awareness of the legislation and procedures which are the responsibility of the department. About us
