Environmental Health Officer, Stornoway, Isle of Lewis (3789) 37 hours per week, Fixed Term to 31 December 2025 £45,126 to £48,849 per annum, inclusive of £2,742 per annum Distant Islands Allowance An Environmental Health Officer is required to maintain and safeguard standards in respect of the health and wellbeing of the population of the Western Isles. You will enhance and protect public health and safety by the application of a wide range of environmental health legislation, including Food Safety, Health and Safety, Housing, Pollution and Licensing. You will work and act in conjunction with other Environmental Health Officers, Community Environment Officers and support staff, and liaise with Comhairle staff at all levels including senior management and elected members. As Environmental Health Officer you will have experience in environmental health work, with both technical and legal knowledge, and an understanding of food safety including the relevant legislation. It is essential that you hold a REHIS Diploma in Environmental Health, or equivalent professional qualification. You must be highly motivated with the ability to work on own initiative, including planning and organising own work, assessing priorities and meeting deadlines. In addition you must have: the ability to establish, promote and maintain relationships of trust and confidence; problem solving skills; a proactive and proportionate approach to regulation; excellent verbal and written communication skills. A Current full UK driving licence and the ability to travel throughout the Western Isles is required. Appointment to the post will be on the first point of the grade.
