JOB PURPOSE
As the Environmental Manager, you'll ensure that Flogas and our subsidiary companies are operating in accordance with the law and our environmental guidelines and sustainability targets. Your role will involve examining our business activities to determine where improvements can be made, making the changes and ensuring compliance with environmental legislation and codes of practice across Flogas. You'll also create, implement and monitor environmental strategies to promote our sustainable growth. Your wide remit means you'll review the whole operation, carrying out environmental audits and assessments, identifying and resolving environmental problems and ensuring necessary changes are implemented.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
As the Environmental Manager, you'll need to:
Develop and implement environmental strategies and action plans, to ensure the sustainable development of Flogas.
Support procurement to develop sustainable procurement plans for all goods and services.
Coordinate all aspects of pollution control, waste management, recycling, environmental health, conservation and renewable energy.
Lead the implementation of environmental policies and practices.
Ensure compliance with UK environmental legislation and keep up to date with relevant proposed legislative changes.
Develop and manage the legal register and produce a compliance assessment for Environmental and Health & Safety legislation.
Work with stakeholders and core agencies on planning matters.
Liaise with relevant bodies such as local authorities, public bodies and competent bodies.
Audit, analyse and report environmental performance to internal and external stakeholders and regulatory bodies.
Coordinate public hearings and consultations on environmental matters.
Carry out impact assessments to identify, assess and reduce Flogas's environmental risks and the associated financial costs.
Promote and raise awareness throughout Flogas of the impact of emerging environmental issues.
Identify and implement best practice in areas of corporate, ethical and social responsibility and address any issues arising.
Develop and implement environmental management systems to continually improve the impact of Flogas on the environment.
Manage relations with the SLT, OLT, subsidiary companies and internal colleagues.
Work with the COMAH and Process Safety team supporting environmental matters as they arise and work with the Competent Authorities as required.
Develop training for colleagues on environmental issues and responsibilities and work with the training team on delivery.
Participate in environmental research especially on new energies.
Negotiate environmental service agreements and manage associated costs.
Write environmental reports, assuming lead responsibility for Flogas.
Develop relevant plans to meet the objectives of the 2030 and 2040 organisational sustainability targets and oversee their delivery.
JOB HOLDER REQUIREMENTS
Desirable, but not essential qualifications:
A degree or equivalent qualification in an environmental science or related field.
Approximately 5 years of experience in environmental management or a similar role; however, we welcome applications from individuals with relevant skills and experience who can demonstrate their suitability for the position.
Membership or eligibility for membership with the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) or similar environmental based professional body.
Essential:
Driving licence.
Ability and flexibility to travel across the UK.
Energy and transportation sector-specific expertise demonstrating understanding of the environmental challenges facing the sectors.
ESSENTIAL TECHNICAL SKILLS
To apply your knowledge as our Environmental Manager effectively, you need a combination of technical skills across various domains. These skills help in analysing our environmental issues, ensuring compliance, and implementing sustainable solutions and drive impactful change in your role.
Regulatory and Compliance Knowledge:
Familiarity with local, national, and international environmental regulations (e.g., ISO 14001, UK legislation and standards, EU directives e.g. ESOS).
Sustainability, Environmental Impact and Resource Management:
Knowledge of biodiversity, ecosystems, and conservation principles.
Technical Skills:
Experience with environmental systems and software for modelling, data management and data analysis.
Project Management and Leadership:
Ability to design, implement, and monitor environmental projects.
Auditing and Assessment:
Conducting internal and external audits for compliance and managing performance improvements.
Communication and Reporting:
Preparing reports, policies, and documentation for stakeholders.
