We have an exciting opportunity to work within the Estates and Facilities Division and as such we are looking to appoint a highly motivated and conscientious individual to work as an Environmental Manager.

The post holder will be responsible for developing, establishing and reviewing procedures, policies and processes, which provide the Health Board with a Waste Management System.

In addition, this post will lead the WHTM Safe Management of Waste.

The post holder will strive to achieve targets for waste management and recycling.

Main duties of the job

To develop and establish policies, procedures and processes (Waste Strategy) to ensure that a total waste management system is implemented and maintained. To ensure that the Trust Health Board maintains its Duty of Care in relation to waste management. To provide regular updates at management meetings on waste management identifying progress and reporting actions being taken. To support managers in developing and improving waste management and provide guidance and expertise to ensure local and strategic improvement. To develop systems, which ensure that waste is appropriately segregated, stored and disposed of in accordance with legislation and good practice.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Person Specification

Qualifications and/or Knowledge

Essential

Educated to Masters level or possess a demonstrable level of knowledge and expertise. Registered with Chartered Institute of Waste and Environment or Chartered Institute of Environmental Health. Good understanding of ISO 14001. Understanding of the Healthcare Waste Strategy for Wales. Can demonstrate clear understanding of waste/environmental management processes and procedures. Clear understanding of how the NHS works.

Desirable

A training qualification. Knowledge of health care terminology. Completed Manual Handling training. Understanding of All Wales- Consortium for collection of clinical waste.

Experience

Essential

Waste management experience. Experience of teaching/facilitation. Experience of developing waste management/recycling strategies. Evidence of multi-disciplinary working. Evidence of project management skills. Experience of audit systems and methods.

Desirable

Work experience of healthcare. Experience of preparing reports for committees.

Aptitude & Abilities

Essential

Ability to manage own workload whilst working to deadlines. Excellent interpersonal skills. Excellent numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to interpret and implement relevant legislation. Tact, influencing and negotiation skills. Ability to work with a wide range of professionals.
