An Environmental Waste Manager in the nuclear industry is responsible for managing and mitigating the environmental impact of nuclear waste.

Duties & Responsibilities: Develop and implement plans for handling, treating, storing, and disposing of radioactive waste. Ensure all activities comply with national and international regulations and prepare necessary documentation. Conduct assessments and develop strategies to mitigate environmental impacts. Implement HSE protocols and conduct risk assessments for waste operations. Manage projects for site clean-up and decommissioning of nuclear facilities. Maintain records and generate reports on waste management activities. Prepare and manage budgets and allocate resources for waste management projects. Communicate with regulatory bodies, agencies, and the public about waste practices and policies. Supervise and train waste management team members. Identify and implement improvements in waste management processes. Develop and implement plans for responding to waste-related emergencies. Promote waste minimization, recycling, and reuse. Conduct audits and implement quality control measures. Engage with local communities and organize public information sessions. Develop and review internal policies for environmental waste management. Qualifications & Requirements: Bachelor's Degree: Essential, preferably in environmental science, environmental engineering, nuclear engineering, chemical engineering, or a related field. Master's Degree: Highly desirable, especially in environmental management, nuclear waste management, or a related discipline. Certifications in environmental management (e.g., Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM)). Certification in radiation protection or nuclear safety (e.g., Radiation Protection Adviser (RPA)). Professional Experience Significant experience in waste management within the nuclear or a related industry. Hands-on experience with radioactive waste handling, storage, and disposal. Proven track record in managing large-scale environmental projects. Experience in risk assessment and regulatory compliance in the context of nuclear waste. Technical Skills In-depth understanding of UK nuclear regulations and international guidelines (e.g., Environment Agency, Health and Safety Executive, International Atomic Energy Agency). Familiarity with environmental laws and policies, particularly those relating to radioactive waste. Expertise in radioactive waste treatment, storage, and disposal methods. Understanding of decontamination and decommissioning processes. Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental (HSE) best practices. Ability to develop and implement waste minimization strategies. Additional Requirements Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance due to the sensitive nature of the work. Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current with technological advancements and regulatory changes in the nuclear industry.
