We are currently seeking a Band 6 Epilepsy Specialist Nurse to join our team of epilepsy nurses based at Chester-le-Street Hospital. The successful applicant will work across the North Durham area and surrounding villages offering specialist epilepsy advice to patients within their own homes, in various clinics, or via the telephone. The service is delivered over five days, Monday to Friday, with core hours of 9 am to 5 pm; however, some flexibility may be required occasionally. The successful applicant will be required to hold a first-level nursing registration with the NMC; additional training specific to the role can be provided. Main Duties of the Job

The successful applicant will work within the Epilepsy Specialist Nursing team to provide both planned and reactive care to patients with an epilepsy diagnosis. This will involve running face-to-face and telephone clinics in community settings. The successful applicant will have experience of managing a caseload of patients who live with epilepsy and whose care can be complex with additional lifestyle issues and comorbidities. Job Responsibilities

The successful candidate will provide a range of nursing care activities with patients, including assessment of epilepsy, monitoring of seizure activity, advising on seizure management and care planning, including prescribing. Educating patients and carers about epilepsy, risk management, and treatment options. The successful candidate will be required to manage a caseload, working independently and as part of the wider nursing team. Person Specification
