Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Lead for Maternity Services

The role will be responsible for improving patient experience and health inequalities within local maternity services. They will contribute at all levels across the service in understanding what we do well and what we can improve through the challenges faced for those who fall under the nine protected characteristics of The Equality Act 2010. Main duties of the job

The post holder will ensure: That local maternity services meet the needs of their local populations, paying particular attention to health inequalities. This includes facilitating informed decision-making, for example choice of pain relief in labour where we know there are inequalities, ensuring access to interpreter services, and adhering to the Accessible Information Standard in maternity and neonatal settings. The collection and disaggregation of local data and feedback by population groups to monitor differences in outcomes and experiences for women and babies from different backgrounds. That this data is used to provide targeted support and implement local plans to reduce inequalities in experience and outcomes. The involvement of service users in quality, governance, and co-production when designing and planning delivery of maternity and neonatal services. About us

MTW is a large acute hospital trust in the south-east of England. We provide a full range of general hospital services and some aspects of specialist and complex care to around 600,000 people living in west Kent and East Sussex. Once your pre-employment checks have been completed you will be contacted by Recruitment to arrange your start date which will be in line with one of our Corporate Inductions. Following your Corporate Induction you will be expected to attend the Trusts 2-week Induction Programme for RNs, NAs, RMs, ODPs and Paramedics. The programme is full-time (please email mtw-tr.professionalstandards@nhs.net if this is problematic) and will involve travel to both Trust sites. The programme includes supernumerary shifts in the clinical area, classroom-based sessions and e-learning. Qualifications

Registered Midwife Post-graduate qualification or equivalent in relevant field obtained through personal or professional lived experience Evidence of professional and personal development Has or working towards a post graduate Masters qualification Mentor Course or equivalent Leadership course PMA Experience

Proven experience as a midwife and able to articulate the functions of maternity services. Demonstrates knowledge of evidence-based practice and quality improvement Up to date and evidence-based knowledge of current professional issues related to marginalised women and health inequalities Awareness and understanding of MBRRACE-UK report findings related the global majority, LGBTQ+ and marginalised service users An understanding of audit and research methodologies. In-depth understanding of the relevance of cultural awareness, cultural competency and unconscious bias Good counselling skills or willing to undertake training. Skills

Able to work as part of a team or autonomously, referring to line manager when appropriate Teaching, training and presenting experience. Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately with people at all levels from a broad range of disciplines Ability to communicate concerns and issues with a range of people with differing communication needs Able to work collaboratively with staff at all levels across the Trust and with external stakeholders and committed to teamwork Able to motivate, empower and facilitate teams from different professional disciplines to be proactive Disclosure and Barring Service Check
