Lead the nation’s consumer protection and markets regime at a time of significant change. About us The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is the UK’s principal competition and consumer protection authority. An independent non-ministerial government department, we help people, businesses and the UK economy by promoting competitive markets and tackling unfair behaviour. Our vital and varied remit includes investigating mergers; investigating potential breaches of UK competition law; enforcing consumer protection law; advising policymakers and Ministers on the design and implementation of relevant policies; advising people and businesses about their rights and obligations under competition and consumer law; and working with sector regulators to promote stronger competition in specific industries. Your role As Executive Director, you will have strategic and operational leadership of the CMA’s Consumer and Markets directorate. You will also be an active member of the CMA Board. You’ll ensure our consumer protection and markets regimes are delivered to a clear vision, in a collaborative and inclusive working culture. Working closely with the Chief Executive Officer and your fellow Board members, you will set the strategic and policy direction for your directorate’s work. As the senior responsible officer for consumer enforcement cases and markets projects, you will also be accountable for a strong pipeline of prospective cases and projects. Overseeing and taking responsibility for our portfolio of regulatory appeals, you’ll work across the organisation to build a resilient, agile model for resourcing and delivering appeals. As an advocate for the CMA, you will foster excellent relationships across government, and within the legal, economic and business community. In leading the implementation of the consumer and markets elements of new Digital Markets, Competition and Consumer legislation, you will enjoy scope to shape a lasting legacy.
