Executive Director Global Scientific Communication and Exchange

Location: United Kingdom Posted on: Oct 20, 2022 Profile Who We Are: For more than two decades, going our own way has led to countless breakthroughs, bettering the lives of those suffering from rare genetic diseases. In 1997, we were founded to make a big difference in small patient populations. Now we seek to make an even greater impact by applying the same science-driven, patient-forward approach that propelled our last 25 years of drug development to larger genetic disorders, as well as genetic subsets of more common conditions. Through our unparalleled expertise in genetics and molecular biology, we will continue to develop targeted therapies that address the root cause of the conditions we seek to treat. Our desire to make a positive impact on our patients extends to our employees, and BioMarin is committed to fostering an inclusive environment where every person feels seen, valued, and heard. Role Overview: The Scientific Communication & Exchange (SCE) Team plays a critical role in maintaining and building BioMarin’s credibility and leadership within the fields of science, medicine, and biotechnology; and in demonstrating the value of our (investigational) therapies to patient communities and healthcare systems. Vital contributions include but are not limited to: Bringing clarity to complex data sets without over-simplification or over-interpretation. Developing educational content to ensure internal alignment and comprehension of key findings. Maintaining up-to-date scientific messaging repositories. Recommending data dissemination plans informed by comprehensive gap analyses. Executing against endorsed data dissemination plans. Producing high-quality manuscripts, posters, abstracts, congress cards, publication summaries, presentations, and trainings. Ensuring accuracy and consistency in cross-functional, externally facing scientific and medical messaging. Performing all activities in a manner compliant with BioMarin best practices. Responsibilities: The Executive Director (ED) of SCE will provide executive-level insights and leadership to SCE team members. The ED will be accountable for infusing the overall SCE strategy with a portfolio view and insights driven by an understanding of evolving business needs. Key responsibilities include: Motivating and engaging teams at all levels. Encouraging open, honest, and clear communication across teams. Holding teams accountable for deliverables. Identifying internal and external best practices. Establishing a team focus on excellence in customer service. Minimum Requirements: Life Sciences background preferred (MD, PharmD, PhD or equivalent), 5 years of experience in medical communications and/or field medical engagement, and global or multiple geographies experience preferred. We are an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
