We have an exciting opportunity to work within the Addenbrooke's Cardiac Rehabilitation team. We are looking for a Cardiac Rehabilitation Exercise professional to deliver the exercise component of the Cardiac Rehabilitation service. The role will involve working across both Secondary Care and Community sites, and you will be responsible for delivering a high-quality comprehensive cardiac rehabilitation programme to a variety of cardiac patients.

The Service has NACR accreditation at green and is research active, currently recruiting for the REACH HFpEF trial. As an exercise physiologist, you will be required to ensure you keep your knowledge of research and emerging practices up to date and contribute to the development of innovations within the service.

Main duties of the job

To be responsible for the assessment and exercise prescription needs of all patients referred to the Cardiac Rehabilitation service. To provide specialist advice and support to patients and colleagues within a multidisciplinary team. To provide progression and adaptations as required of patients' hospital and community-based Cardiac Rehabilitation. To deliver up-to-date education to patients around exercising with a variety of cardiac conditions, as well as basic knowledge of all risks for cardiovascular diseases. To assist in coordinating and developing the delivery of Cardiac Rehabilitation, including undertaking research into various topics, developing novel and new approaches to Cardiac Rehabilitation, and attending relevant continued professional development opportunities.

Qualifications

Essential

BSc in Sports Science or equivalent BACPR Phase IV Qualification

Desirable

MSc in Sports Science or equivalent Registered Clinical Exercise Physiologist with AHCS / BASES / ACSM Certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist BLS with defibrillator skills

Experience

Essential

Experience of delivering exercise to cardiac patients Experience of prescribing and delivering exercise programs across different modalities i.e. face-to-face, virtual, and home-based programs. Experience of conducting and analysing data from a variety of exercise tests. Experience of delivering educational content to patient groups.

Desirable

Experience of delivering cardiac rehabilitation exercise within a hospital/community setting/home-based. Experience of delivering exercise to a complex patient group with multiple co-morbidities. Experience and understanding of working in a healthcare environment and healthcare systems.

Knowledge

Essential

Understanding of the pathophysiology, aetiology, and epidemiology, diagnosis, and management of coronary heart disease and its related co-morbidities. Sound understanding of the role of exercise in the management of coronary heart disease. Understanding of the importance of risk stratification of patients and contraindications to exercising. Knowledge around national bodies for Cardiac Rehabilitation and guidelines for undertaking exercise components of Cardiac Rehabilitation.

Desirable

Knowledge of the importance of exercise as a therapy for heart failure and other complex cardiac conditions. Knowledge of the importance of exercise as therapy for common co-morbidities within the cardiac population (e.g., diabetes, arthritis, respiratory conditions). Understanding of the patient pathways and how to support the patient through this. Evidence of undertaking regular learning to improve and uptake knowledge with new emerging research or recommendations.

Skills

Essential

Good verbal and written communication skills. Experience working with Microsoft Office, including comprehensive knowledge of Excel. Ability to work unsupervised and manage own workload effectively with time management. Flexible and adaptable to changing situations due to both workload and colleagues' needs. Capable of working within a multidisciplinary team with effective interpersonal skills. Have a proactive, enthusiastic, and a positive approach.

Desirable

Ability to produce good quality accurate clinical documentation.
