Croydon’s Expert by Experience Panel

Join us in making a difference in the lives of those affected by domestic abuse, sexual violence and VAWG. Your voice matters!

We are seeking individuals who are survivors of domestic abuse, sexual violence, and violence against women and girls to form part of our ‘Expert by Experience panel’ dedicated to improving the lives of those affected by domestic abuse, sexual violence, and VAWG. This role is crucial in shaping our services and ensuring that the voices of survivors are heard and integrated into our practices. If you are a victim/survivor, aged 16+ who lives, works or studies in Croydon please read below.

Key Responsibilities:

Advocacy and Representation:

Use your lived experience to advocate for victim/survivors, ensuring their voices influence service delivery and policy development.

Training and Support:

Sharing insights from your experiences to enhance understanding and empathy towards those affected by domestic abuse. Co-delivery of training and/or shaping delivery and content.

Program Development:

Collaborate with the FJS, the councils domestic abuse and sexual violence service, to develop programs and initiatives that address the needs of survivors, ensuring they are tailored and effective.

Community Engagement:

Engage with the community to raise awareness about domestic abuse, breaking down stigma and promoting available resources.

We also ask that you are:

Passionate about helping to improve the response to Gender-Based Violence locally

Reliable and can commit to attending panel meetings (in person and online)

Understand the importance of equality and treating others fairly

Open-minded and able to participate respectfully in a diverse group where opinions may differ

Interested in learning new skills

Able to ask for support when they need

Willing to complete a DBS check - this is to help us ensure everyone’s safety. We encourage applications from people who have had contact with the criminal justice system and will not unfairly discriminate based on previous convictions

Additionally:

It is safe for you to participate in the panel, this means that you do not believe that being involved will put your physical safety or mental wellbeing at risk.

Panel members will have access to support through the council’s domestic abuse service the FJS as well as the chair of the board who will be a registered therapist.

We will respect your right to privacy and will never ask you to provide details about your experiences of violence and abuse.

No prior work experience is required.

We encourage applications from all backgrounds and experiences.
