Who are we, and what are we looking for?
External Trustees to sit on the Charity’s Board of Trustees:
The University of Sussex Students’ Union (USSU) is a charity that exists to support the advancement of education of students at the University of Sussex. We are a democratic organisation representing 18,000 students at the University of Sussex, the Institute of Development Studies and Brighton and Sussex Medical School. We provide a wide range of services to students - from a confidential and independent advice service, supporting student societies, sports clubs, co-operatives and campaigns, providing student jobs, putting on events to advocating for individual students. We are looking for motivated and experienced individuals to become External Trustees sitting on the University of Sussex Students' Union Board of Trustees, helping to manage the strategy and finances of the organisation, whilst providing a solid structure of expertise, experience and support to the elected student officers to ensure that the Students’ Union will be able to deliver positive change for its members year after year.

Answers can be submitted either in writing or as a voice note / video file. Please contact us on recruitment@sussexstudent.com if you would prefer an alternative form of submission. If shortlisted, you will be asked to attend an informal discussion with the other trustees and an interview with the appointments panel in the week commencing 27th January 2025. The interview panel is expected to be made up of the Chair of the Trustee Board (a sabbatical trustee), one other sabbatical, one student trustee, an existing External Trustee and the Chief Executive. The appointments committee will make recommendations to the Trustee Board which meets on 27th February.
