Job Description: We are seeking a skilled and experienced Fibre Splicer to join our team in Birmingham. The successful candidate will be responsible for installing, splicing, and testing fibre optic cables to ensure the integrity and performance of telecommunication networks. This role requires a detail-oriented individual who can work independently and as part of a team to support the deployment and maintenance of fibre optic infrastructure. Key Responsibilities: Perform fibre optic splicing, including fusion and mechanical splicing, in a variety of environments such as underground, aerial, and inside premises. Conduct testing and troubleshooting of fibre optic networks using equipment like OTDR, power meters, and light sources to ensure signal quality and continuity. Install, terminate, and maintain fibre optic cables and associated equipment, including enclosures, connectors, and patch panels. Read and interpret technical documents such as network plans, splicing diagrams, and blueprints to perform accurate installations. Perform fibre optic network upgrades, repairs, and expansions as required. Maintain accurate documentation of work completed, including test results, work reports, and inventory of materials used. Follow safety protocols and best practices to ensure the safety of oneself and others while working on-site. Collaborate with other team members, contractors, and clients to complete projects on time and within budget. Troubleshoot and resolve network connectivity issues effectively and efficiently. Skills and Qualifications: Proven experience as a Fibre Splicer or in a similar role, with a strong understanding of fibre optic technology. Familiarity with fibre optic testing tools such as OTDR, fusion splicers, and power meters. Knowledge of fibre optic network construction, including underground and aerial installations. Ability to read and understand technical drawings, specifications, and network diagrams. Strong troubleshooting skills to diagnose and resolve fibre optic issues. Understanding of health and safety regulations related to working with fibre optics. Full UK driving license is preferred. Relevant certifications (e.g., NRSWA, BT Openreach accreditation) are highly advantageous. Personal Attributes: Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure. Excellent communication and teamwork skills. Self-motivated with a proactive approach to learning and development. Compensation and Benefits: Competitive salary ranging from £35,000 to £42,000 per annum. Overtime paid at Time and a half. Opportunities for professional development and training.
