Are you an experienced professional with a background in mechanical engineering, looking for a new challenge? Do you have knowledge of pipework installation, rotating equipment, and quality assurance standards? Are you someone who thrives in a fast-paced construction environment, where every day brings new challenges and opportunities to make an impact? If so, come and join EDF as a Field Engineer!

The Opportunity

As a Field Engineer, you'll be responsible for overseeing construction activities performed by contractors on the Hinkley Point C site. Your focus will be on the installation and assembly of mechanical equipment, including static and rotating equipment, piping systems, pipe supports, and welding processes. You'll conduct surveillance checks to ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with the contractor's work specifications, providing assurance that construction activities meet the required quality standards and align with project expectations.

In this role, you'll work closely with contractors and internal project teams to identify any quality issues, support corrective actions, and verify compliance with agreed work methods and procedures. You'll be part of a dedicated team tasked with delivering contractual quality oversight, contributing to Hinkley Point C's overall quality targets, and ensuring the integrity and reliability of the project's mechanical installations. You will play a key role in ensuring quality compliance across designated sections of the works, in line with NNB's surveillance strategy. Reporting to the Construction Superintendent for daily guidance, you will contribute to site-wide management activities and work closely with other operational team members to maintain seamless coordination. Your focus will be on ensuring construction activities are completed in accordance with the contractor's work information, while identifying and addressing any deviations or non-conformance issues.

You will actively monitor quality performance by reviewing contractor activities against approved Quality Control Plans and ensuring that Quality Inspection Records are taken and agreed before works are covered up. In addition, you will maintain proactive communication with key stakeholders to identify potential quality issues early and take necessary actions to prevent project delays. Supporting the construction team, you will help implement temporary measures to keep works safe and within quality standards, escalating issues where required.

With a strong understanding of contractual technical requirements, construction drawings, and inspection records, you will ensure that design decisions follow the formal quality process rather than being made in the field. You'll also support the development of health, safety, and environmental standards, continuously contributing to improving quality procedures and helping the project achieve its key performance indicators.

Being a Field Engineer at Hinkley Point C means bringing a strong mechanical engineering background and a deep understanding of pipework installation, pumps, tanks, and rotating equipment. You'll need a broad knowledge of construction materials, trades methods, and legal requirements, along with a solid grasp of Quality Assurance standards such as ISO9001. A mechanical engineering qualification or equivalent vocational training, combined with significant hands-on experience, is essential to excel in this role.

You'll be detail-focused, with the ability to check work, equipment, and materials to ensure compliance with quality standards. Writing clear and concise diaries that accurately reflect project progress and contractual obligations will be part of your responsibilities. Strong organisational and communication skills will enable you to work effectively in a high-performing team, consistently delivering results that exceed expectations.

We're looking for someone who can build positive working relationships with contractors and project teams while maintaining independence. You'll need to be persuasive and diplomatic when managing quality issues, ensuring high standards are maintained across the site. The ability to influence stakeholders and promote a culture of continuous improvement will be key to success in this role.

Alongside a salary of £55,000 to £65,000 and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include a range of benefits, from the big and formal to the small and personal.

We're talking about everything from enhanced parental leave to electric vehicle leasing, health insurance to product discounts, critical illness insurance to technology vouchers, gym membership to season ticket loans.

At EDF UK, we embrace flexibility while recognising that everyone's working needs are different. Whether you're in our office spaces, on site, or working remotely, we promote an environment that supports collaboration, connection, and comfort. No matter where you are, our priority is to make sure you feel safe, valued, and celebrated.

Here, we do right by each other and everyone's welcome. We're on an action-oriented journey, championing equity, diversity, and inclusion. We'd like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability and supporting social mobility.

We're a disability confident employer and we'll do all we can to help with your application. Please let us know if you need to request reasonable adjustments.

We take pride in fostering a dynamic and inclusive environment, where the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our employees drive fresh thinking and innovation. We understand that success means different things to different people. We believe there are multiple definitions of what it means to succeed. That's why we support you to pursue a career that's unique to you. Because success is personal.
