Morson Talent are delighted to present an opportunity for a suitably qualified Field Engineer (Mechanical) to join our client's established Site Quality Surveillance Team. All work is associated with a major energy infrastructure Project in Somerset. This is a 12-month (renewable) contract position - inside IR35. Site based.

Job Purpose

The Field Engineer (Mechanical) will carry out surveillance on construction activities performed by a Contractor on the Construction Site. Activities are related to the Construction / Installation / Assembly of Mechanical Equipment (such as Static & Rotating Equipment, Pipes, Pipes Support, including the welding process etc.). He / She will perform surveillance to ensure that these activities are performed in line with the Contractor's Work Information. He / She will form part of a team whose primary role is to ensure that Project Quality needs, targets and expectations are met.

Principal Accountabilities

The Field Engineer is responsible for the surveillance of quality compliance within the designated section of the Works in accordance with Project surveillance strategy requirements. The Field Engineer will input into site wide management issues and a high level of interaction and coordination with other operational members of the site wide team will be required. In addition to reporting and liaising responsibilities, the Field Engineer will be required to adhere to (and suggest enhancements and improvements to) company policies, procedures and protocols for construction, health & safety and other functions. The Field Engineer will be required to: Check the Works are constructed in accordance with the Contractor's Work Information and notify the Construction Superintendent of deviation and non-conformance request requirements. Submit details of any non-conformance request requirements to assist in the issuing of non-conformance reports. Proactively communicate with other stakeholders of the considered scope of work, maintain good communication links and ensure surveillance is timely reported. Endeavour to identify potential Quality issues before they arise to enable mitigating actions. Support team instructions to take temporary measures to mitigate and keep works safe and within Quality standards. Follow up by taking appropriate and proportionate action (e.g. issue communications, call meetings) to prevent the halt of works. Ensure tasks are developed to quality in accordance with the company's requirement for health, safety and environment. Develop and maintain an understanding of contractual Technical Requirements, construction drawings, construction activities, Quality Control Plans and Quality Inspection Records. Ensure and monitor that Quality Inspection Records are taken and agreed before Works are covered up. Review Contractor performance against the authorised Quality Control Plan.

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience

Essential

A Mechanical Engineering qualification (or equivalent) vocational training and significant experience. Experience and knowledge of pipework installation, pumps, tanks and rotating equipment. Broad knowledge and wide understanding of the materials, trades methods and legal requirements. Broad knowledge of Quality Assurance Requirements (such as ISO9001). Excellent organisation and communication skills. Ability to work within a high performing team that continuously outperforms expectations and objectives. Proven experience of writing diaries which are accurate, concise and with relevance to the form of contract. Good attention to detail when checking work, equipment and materials. Able to establish appropriate working relationships with the contractors. Desirable

Experience in the installation / erection of large Mechanical Equipment (including Piping activities experience). Proven track record of working within a large construction team. General understanding of the post's obligations under CDM Regulations - along with an understanding of the document and drawing approvals processes.
