As the Finance Director for the Commercial and Medical Affairs Digital and Tech functions, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the financial strategy of these critical areas during a time of rapid digital change. Digital investments (e.g. AI/ GenAI, omnichannel and others) can drive substantial differentiated shareholder value - this is an exciting time to see how technology can disrupt and change our processes.
You will provide financial leadership, strategic direction, and robust financial management to drive business performance and achieve the Global Commercial and Medical Affairs Digital and Techs objectives.
Demonstrating the ability to operate and influence beyond financial implications is absolutely core, given the complexity of the many global investments; whilst being able to communicate clearly to senior non-finance stakeholders.
- Build high trust, high challenge relationships with Commercial and Medical Digital and Tech SVP's. Participating in discussions to help structure or resolve highly complex problem statements will be a sign of success for the role (e.g. program deployments, digital pilots to prove value).
- Be a thought leader and strong partner to Commercial and Medical Digital and Tech SVP's and their leadership teams across all Financial and wider business aspects. Provide challenge and direction to the Commercial and Medical Digital and Tech leadership teams on BAU, business cases and projects.
- Direct the creation of investment cases and execution plans to ensure decision makers understand scenarios, alternative options, risk and benefits (going beyond the financial scope into delivery and execution - this context is critical to enable prioritisation decisions to be effective, and to identify risks that other senior parties have not identified). Be able to brilliantly articulate the value case, commercial implications, and outcomes across a portfolio of high interdependence work. Drive value across the Commercial and Medical BU- going beyond impact on Digital and Tech.
- Be the independent, enterprise voice in the room that helps pull multiple perspectives together to ensure the right decision is made. You will need to play an active leadership role, challenging and uniting multiple stakeholders.
- Manage investment and project prioritisation and provide robust challenge to investment plans to ensure the maximum return for Commercial and Medical Digital & Tech programs across the business, ensuring strong partnership with counterparts in Commercial Finance and the wider Business, and prepare corresponding investment cases going beyond the impact on Tech.
You will act as the independent adviser to the Commercial & Medical Tech SVPs and their LT across multiple topics, from enterprise risk, strategy, benefits realisation (e.g. AI/ GenAI, omnichannel). Challenging operating models, running investigations, utilising your internal and external stakeholder networks to gather points of view that enable debate and ultimately driving resolution to an outcome... you will be expected to have a point of view, and to contribute as a peer and a trusted partner across a broad range of enterprise and commercial topics.
There is a very high degree of ambiguity in this role, due to the nature of the topics, the pace of change required and the fact that there is no precedent set on how to approach. Any candidate will need to thrive in this situation.
