We are looking for a Finance Director to join our team and lead the financial operations of our Federation. This strategic role reports directly to the Chief Officer and works closely with the Board of Directors to ensure the financial health and sustainability of NCGPA. You will be responsible for financial planning, risk management, and delivering value to our stakeholders, supporting decision-making through robust financial strategies.

This is a hands-on role that requires a balance of strategic vision and operational expertise. You will lead a finance team and collaborate with clinical and operational teams to ensure financial and service delivery objectives are aligned.

Main duties of the job

As Finance Director, you will lead the financial strategy and operations of NCGPA, ensuring the organisation's financial health and sustainability. Working closely with the Chief Officer and Board of Directors, you will provide expert advice on financial planning, risk management, and investment opportunities to support organisational growth and efficiency.

You will oversee all aspects of financial management, including budgets, forecasts, and compliance with UK financial regulations. A key part of your role will involve ensuring robust financial controls, managing cash flow, and identifying opportunities for cost efficiencies. You will also present financial performance reports to the Board, providing insights and recommendations to support decision-making.

In addition to strategic responsibilities, you will manage and develop the finance team, oversee payroll and procurement processes, and collaborate with clinical and operational teams to align financial and service delivery objectives. As the primary point of contact for external stakeholders, you will maintain strong relationships with NHS commissioners, auditors, and financial institutions.

Job responsibilities

Key Responsibilities Develop and implement the financial strategy to support NCGPAs goals and objectives. Advise the Board and senior leadership on financial planning, risk management, and investment opportunities. Oversee the preparation of accurate financial reports, budgets, and forecasts. Ensure compliance with UK financial regulations, including VAT and Corporation tax. Manage cash flow, funding, and financial risk, ensuring operational resilience. Lead cost reduction initiatives and identify opportunities for financial efficiencies. Present financial performance reports to the Board, offering insights and recommendations. Support external audits and liaise with auditors as required. Manage and develop the finance team, fostering a collaborative and high-performing culture. Person Specification

Essential Qualifications and Experience

Essential

Professional accounting qualification (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA) Significant experience in senior finance leadership roles, ideally within the healthcare, public, or not-for-profit sector Proven track record of developing and implementing financial strategies to support organisational growth and sustainability Strong understanding of NHS financial structures, commissioning, and primary care funding Demonstrable experience in preparing budgets, financial forecasts, and compliance with UK financial regulations (including VAT and Corporation Tax). Experience working within a GP Federation, Primary Care Network (PCN), or similar healthcare organisation. Knowledge of NHS/Public sector financial regimes and audit standards. Understanding of the challenges and dynamics of small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs). Skills and Competencies
