Finance Manager Responsibilities
Accounting Policies and Controls: Maintain up-to-date accounting policies and procedures to ensure accurate financial management and clean audit reports. Implement and monitor a strong financial control framework to identify and mitigate risks. Management Reporting: Review monthly management accounts, comparing performance against budget, and provide detailed variance analysis and commentary. Prepare the monthly board pack, including profit and loss, balance sheet, and cash flow statements. Reconciliations and Systems Management: Oversee the preparation and review of balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring all balances are supported with appropriate documentation. Post necessary journals in Sage 200 to ensure the production of accurate management accounts. Financial Analysis and Improvements: Review divisional management reports, offering insights and recommendations for improvement and cost-saving opportunities. Produce weekly cash flow forecasts and identify opportunities for working capital optimisation. Operational Finance Oversight: Approve supplier payments and manage cash collection from trade debtors. Prepare and submit quarterly VAT returns to HMRC. Team Leadership and Development: Manage, develop, and lead the Finance team, providing supervision and professional development to two direct reports. Audit and Compliance: Prepare year-end financial statements in compliance with FRS102. Lead the preparation of audit files and act as the primary contact for auditors and tax advisors. Budgeting and Forecasting: Assist with the annual budgeting process and mid-year reforecasting activities. System Optimisation: Maximise the potential of the Sage 200 accounting system. Proven experience in financial management, ideally with exposure to FRS102 and Sage 200. Excellent knowledge of financial controls, reporting, and risk management. Strong analytical skills with the ability to provide meaningful insights and recommendations. Demonstrated experience in team leadership and development. A professional accounting qualification (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA) is highly desirable. Advanced knowledge of VAT reporting and compliance.
