We are seeking an experienced and qualified Finance Manager to join our team on a part-time basis. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in managing our financial processes and maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records. Finance Manager Hours: Part-Time (21 hours per week) Based: Salford M6 (Hybrid working available) Responsible to: Chief Executive Officer Salary: Competitive – commensurate with experience About Us START is a charity that has been delivering mental health recovery and prevention services in Salford for over 30 years. About the Role You will manage the day-to-day running of transactional finance; purchase ledger, sales ledger, credit control and bank reconciliations which are crucial for maintaining financial control and transparency. You will also be responsible for running monthly payroll, producing and monitoring annual budgets and preparing bank, payroll and pension transactions. A key part of this role will be providing critical support and insights and ensuring that the financial information and analysis needed to support decision-making, optimise cost control and drive overall financial performance within the charity is delivered to the highest standards. Duties Responsibility for the management of the Finance function Supporting the month-end close process, ensuring that all financial data is accurately recorded Preparing accruals and prepayments Ensuring accurate tracking of restricted and unrestricted income and expenditure Supporting strategic decision-making by the senior management team through detailed financial analysis, preparing monthly financial reports highlighting critical insights and areas of concern Providing accurate and meaningful quarterly reports for the Board including financial data from profit and loss statements, balance sheets and variance analysis End to end payroll processing including calculating any variations to pay, RTI and pension contribution reporting, P45 and P60 Preparing annual draft financial statements and budgets for approval Liaising with external accountants and auditors as required Undertaking Finance Inductions with new staff introducing them to finance processes and procedures Ensuring compliance with financial regulations and company finance policies ensuring these are kept relevant and up to date Overseeing the financial aspects of project management, including budget tracking and financial reporting for specific projects Occasional cover of sales and purchase ledger duties including monthly invoice raising and supplier payment run Any other duties commensurate with the role of the Finance Manager Qualifications and Skills: Accounting or Financial Management qualification – minimum AAT Level 4 is essential Proven experience in a similar role, preferably within the VCSE sector Strong knowledge of SORP accounting principles and practices A strong understanding of accounting concepts such as accruals, prepayments, statement of financial position Competence in using payroll software, processing new starters and leavers and working with HMRC, tax codes, national insurance and pension legislation Proficiency in Quickbooks accounting software or similar and MS Office, particularly Excel Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail Effective communication skills, both written and verbal Ability to work independently and manage time effectively Personal Attributes: High level of integrity and confidentiality Proactive and able to take initiative Strong problem-solving skills and analytical thinking Ability to work collaboratively within a small team environment This position is part-time (21 hours) and is ideal for someone looking to balance work with other commitments.
