We are seeking a skilled and motivated Finance Manager to join our small team at The Pilgrims’ School. We are a leading, selective, day and boarding boys’ prep and double choir school, set in the beautiful and historic Winchester city centre. We are a vibrant, lively school where boys aged 4 to 13 are encouraged to find their passions and nurture them. The role sits within a busy department currently consisting of the Director of Finance & Resources, Data Administrator, HR Assistant, and this role. The core Finance responsibilities of the department are Fee Billing, Credit Control, Purchase Ledger, Payroll, Management Accounts, and Bursar duties. The ideal candidate will manage the day-to-day accounting for the School, which includes responsibility for all aspects of the monthly payroll process, production of all school fee invoices (on a termly basis), and payment of all suppliers and expense claims through the purchase ledger. This role is also responsible for the preparation of management accounts and assisting the Director of Finance & Resources with the preparation of the annual financial statements and audit deliverables. Person Specification Full or part accountancy qualification or experience in a similar role. Experience of running a monthly payroll system. Experience of SAGE payroll system. Experience of working in a school environment. Experience of Engage school accounting system. Hours Reporting to the Director of Finance & Resources. To start in January 2025, however a longer notice period could be considered. This is a full-time position requiring 40 hours of work per week, year-round, Monday through Friday. Flexibility to consider candidates who want part-time hours (no minimum than 30 hours a week), recognizing the needs to manage the role e.g. production of the fee run, payroll processing, and during the annual audit. The full-time working hours will generally be between 8.30am and 5.30pm, including a 1-hour unpaid lunch break.
