Become the finance trustee with this innovative Students’ Union to help them enact their ambitious strategy and oversee a multi-million commercial portfolio. Location:

The Engine Shed, Brayford Pool, Lincoln LN6 7TS The University of Lincoln Students’ Union is a dynamic and student-centred organisation that has represented its members since 2007. We have grown our reach and services, coming to represent over 15,000 students. We’re on the lookout for a new finance trustee to bring scrutiny and support as we navigate an exciting phase of innovation post-COVID. As we enter the second year of our ambitious strategy, we need someone who is passionate about our charitable mission and who can provide strategic oversight for our commercial activities. This includes a cutting-edge data management system used by Students’ Unions across the UK, as well as our vibrant hospitality and event venues that enrich the cultural landscape of Lincoln with food, drink, music, and theatre. If you’re committed to empowering students and enhancing our community, we invite you to join our board and help us shape the future of the University of Lincoln Students’ Union! About the role

The successful candidate will act as an external trustee on our board. You will be jointly responsible for setting the strategic direction of our charity and ensuring we act in the best interests of our members. As trustee, you will bring a fresh outside perspective and help to shape key decisions. Trustees focus on top-level judgements that steer the Union, safeguard its reputation and relationships with partners, and provide a sounding board to our executive staff, who are responsible for the day-to-day running of the Union. Our board also oversees the work of our trading subsidiaries. Each subsidiary has its own board, but our trustee board ensures their effective management, bridging the gap between our charitable and commercial endeavours. Who we are looking for

We are looking for candidates with accountancy skills to join our board— someone with a critical eye who can ask questions and act as a critical friend to our CEO and senior staff. Given our significant commercial portfolio, the ideal trustee will have experience in commercial finance. We are especially keen to hear from candidates who are excited about the prospect of working with student leaders. If you have an approachable coaching style, can explain financial complexities, and have experience facilitating conversations to ensure everyone can express their thoughts, you will fit well on our board. Time commitment

The time commitment is 9 – 10 meetings a year. This includes four annual board meetings that are held in person and attendance at the Finance and Risk Subcommittee, which meets four times a year virtually. Dates are provided months in advance and are flexible. The papers for meetings are circulated ahead of time, and reasonable travel expenses can be claimed. Welcome from the Chair and Group Chief Executive

Dear candidates, We are looking for a trustee with a strong background in finance who can complement the skills of our existing board of trustees. Working alongside our sabbatical and student trustees, external trustees provide considerable expertise to support our organisation’s strategic aspirations. The ideal candidate would reside in Lincolnshire, but candidates from the surrounding area would be considered if willing to commit the necessary time to the role. About us
