Job Title: Financial Accountant Department: Finance Direct Supervisor: Financial Control & Compliance Manager Location: Hybrid Working Job Purpose: The Financial Accountant will be responsible for managing the financial accounting activities related to component capitalisation and fixed assets. This includes supporting the statutory accounts production process, completing reconciliations, and delivering a professional and customer-focused finance service. Dimensions: • Lead on the delivery of the Component capitalisation process and day-to-day monitoring of the Fixed Asset Register for our 11,000 homes and circa £23m Investment Programme expenditure. • Bring together lead officers from across the business to deliver a cohesive review process as necessary. • Ensure accuracy and transparency in all records, requiring a keen eye for detail and an inquisitive nature. • Utilize excellent planning and time management skills to deliver timely processes in line with deadlines. • Apply strong accountancy skills to support statutory account and reconciliation work. Principal Accountabilities: • Lead the capitalisation of housing components, ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards and policies. • Review and analyse capital expenditure to determine appropriate classification and capitalisation. • Maintain accurate records of component capitalisation, including additions, disposals, and depreciation. • Manage and maintain the fixed asset register, ensuring it is up-to-date and accurately reflects the asset base. • Reconcile fixed asset accounts and perform regular audits to verify the existence and condition of assets. • Monitor asset movements and ensure timely recording of acquisitions, disposals, and transfers. • Calculate and record depreciation, ensuring compliance with applicable accounting standards. • Ensure services provided are necessary and minimize waste across the Group. • Support the Head of Finance in the delivery of a group integrated finance system, processes, and services as directed. • Prepare and review appropriate control accounts and reconciliations. • Assist with the consolidation of accounts to facilitate Group reporting and monitoring compliance with financial covenants. • Lead in the preparation of annual budgets and forecasts for areas of responsibility. • Assist the Financial Control & Compliance Manager in producing statutory accounts, including completion of reconciliations, supporting schedules, and review of the notes in financial statements. • Liaise with and support internal and external auditors when required. • Ensure all data processed within our systems is collected, updated, and stored in line with procedures and legal requirements, providing regular reviews of data quality to the line manager. Key Performance Measures: • Produce Capitalisation control summaries and ensure the capitalisation process is conducted in a timely manner. • Ensure the Fixed Asset Register is reviewed and reflects the condition of assets, including depreciation estimates and forecasts. • Lead on the maintenance and continuous improvement of the Fixed Assets software and reporting alongside the Finance Management Team. Knowledge, Skills & Experience: • Financial Accounts • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (e.g., Excel, Word) and computerised financial systems • Knowledge of IFRS and FRS102 • Relevant qualification experience • Significant experience providing accountancy services in a medium to large-sized organisation • Knowledge of Component accounting • Experience of Social Housing Finance • Experience in presenting complex financial information and providing financial advice to a wide range of audiences • Experience of tracing transactions from a management information system to an accounting system and vice versa • Ability to prioritise and plan effectively • Organise resources to achieve goals • Adapt positively to change • Demonstrate drive, enthusiasm, and determination • Seek ways to continuously improve and learn • Commit to Customer Service at all times • A methodical approach to developing solutions • Manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
