Job Description Oversee the operations of the accounting department, including the design of an organisational structure adequate for achieving the department's goals and objectives. Prepare the company's budget and financial forecasts and report variances. Develop and maintain timely and accurate financial statements and reports appropriate for users and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Ensure that all statutory requirements of the organization are met including Charitable Status, Withholding Payments (CPP, EI), Income Tax, Goods and Services Tax. Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure that personnel and financial information is secure. Oversee the bookkeeping function including maintenance of the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll. Collaborate with auditing services to ensure proper compliance with all regulations. Develop financial business plans and forecasts. The Successful Applicant A successful Financial Controller should have: Proven working experience as a Financial Controller in the essential services industry, this includes water, electricity, natural gas and waste management. Advanced degree in Accounting. CPA or CMA preferred. Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures. Excellent accounting software user administration skills. Demonstrated leadership ability, confidence and executive presence - ability to motivate staff. Excellent analytical and abstract reasoning skills, plus excellent organisation skills.
