CEO About OWA Ocean Women’s Association (OWA) is a small local organisation delivering work to benefit disadvantaged and socially isolated older Bangladeshi women in Stepney and around Tower Hamlets. We currently have just one part-time staff member responsible for delivering project work, fundraising, and the day-to-day running of the organisation. This role is an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of local women. Purpose of the role To deliver the Smallwood Project for OWA. This is a programme of workshops on cost-of-living topics in the Bengali language, delivered to 90 women per year, including budgeting skills, state benefits, saving money on household and energy bills, savvy shopping, job seeking, training, volunteering, debt management, mental health, and support available. Over 3 years, 270 women will benefit from the workshops. Each workshop topic will be held twice each year (total of 10 workshops per year), offering a total of 180 workshop places per year, including at our base in the Stepney City Farm. What we are looking for A Bangladeshi Sylheti female worker, who has experience working with women’s projects. This includes assigning and monitoring daily tasks, liaising and communicating with other groups and projects to recruit clients, as well as creating reports and updates for the project manager and other members of management. Experience in community work is essential. Networking is critical for this job and will include attending women’s events, contacting professional organisations, and using social platforms such as LinkedIn to network with and learn from like-minded professionals and opportunities.
