For candidates currently working towards attaining the required qualifications, training and support may be available. This role holds a significant position within the local authority and will work closely with all relevant duty holders to ensure compliance with fire safety regulations within their establishments. The role, based within the Health, Safety & Resilience Team of Protective Services, is key in ensuring the overall compliance of the Council with its statutory obligations and internal policies. Although it is not essential to be a member of the Institute of Fire Engineers (IFE) at the time of application, candidates will be expected to work towards that goal, i.e., immediate Affiliate membership working towards Graduate membership within 3 years. The candidate should also ideally have a recognized qualification in health and safety, such as the NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety. Basic keyboarding skills and understanding of Microsoft database, spreadsheet and word processing applications are essential. The jobholder must also be competent in written report writing, able to communicate effectively at all levels, and have experience of working independently to achieve targets. Experience of training staff, the public, or non-professionals in fire safety and the use of appropriate computer packages to progress own workload is also desirable.
