Southampton Britten-Norman is the producer of one of the most successful civil aircraft ever manufactured in the UK and is now the UK's only independent civil aircraft manufacturer. The Flight Dynamics and Certification Engineer is responsible for delivery of flight dynamics output, supporting the Head of Flight Dynamics. This includes provision of expertise to support design and certification activities, and to the wider business to support new and existing customers. The Flight Dynamics and Certification Engineer also provides technical expertise in the development of future concepts and product improvements, including R&D activities. The role also incorporates supporting all aspects of Britten-Norman's flight test capabilities, including conduct of flying duties as deemed appropriate by the Head of Flight Test. In addition to flight dynamics output, the role incorporates active participation in certification activities across all technical areas, using transferable skills to support the demands of the business. Key Skills and Attributes: Provision of technical expertise in all areas of flight dynamics, including aircraft performance, handling qualities, stability, control, mass & balance and aerodynamic design. This includes leading design and certification activities for modification programmes relating to these areas. Supporting the Head of Flight Dynamics through feasibility studies and expertise on configurational design for future aircraft upgrades and development programmes. Supporting the development of the Flight Dynamics team (e.g. Graduates / Interns), including mentoring and on-the-job training. Also supporting the development of tools and techniques for flight dynamics analysis, modelling and simulation. Active participation in the certification process across all technical areas, in order to meet the needs of the business. This includes the preparation of all certification documents in accordance with Britten-Norman's Design Office Procedures. Support to flight test, contributing to delivery of safe and effective flight test activities. This includes engagement in all stages of the flight test process. Provides flight dynamics expertise to all areas of the business, including the Business Development team. This typically includes aircraft performance data and customer requirements analysis, and delivery of data to support marketing and promotional material. Supports collaborations with third party organisations, for example Universities, to enhance the capabilities available to the Design Office. This may also include representing Britten-Norman's interests in collaborative R&D projects with 3^rd party organisations and funding bodies. Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively in multi-disciplinary teams. Ability to work in small teams. Ability to communicate effectively and clearly to a wide range of people at all levels within the business. Ability to remain flexible to meet the wider demands of an expanding business. Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines. Minimum Qualification Requirements: 5 GCSEs Grade C/4+ including Maths / English. A Bachelor's Degree in aerospace engineering or a related subject is required. A Master's Degree in Aerospace engineering or a related subject would be highly desirable. Higher Degree in aerospace engineering or a related subject would be highly desirable. Meets the requirements for Chartered Engineer status would be highly desirable. Required Experience: Experience of fixed-wing flight dynamics. Experience of the civil aircraft certification process. Experience of aircraft operations and developing operator requirements.
