Job Title: Flood Risk Consultant/Engineer Locations: Coleshill / Exeter / Haywards Heath / Newport, UK Salary: 35-55k (experience dependant) Type of contract: Perm / Hybrid Are you a flood risk consultant or engineer looking to be part of a successful and growing team? Do you wish to take your career to the next level? Our client is looking for experienced Flood Risk Consultants and Engineers, at all grades above graduate (1 year post grad UK sector experience minimum), to join their growing development and planning focused teams, providing strategic, feasibility and design advice to a range of clients involved in development, land use planning and flood risk management projects. As well as offering the opportunity to join an established development and planning teams, the role also offers significant opportunities to work on a wide range of projects and alongside some of the UK's foremost technical experts in flood risk and water management. With appropriate consideration of a candidate's experience and seniority, responsibilities will include: Directing, coordinating and undertaking Flood Risk Assessments (England) in accordance with NPPF and/or Flood Consequence Assessment (Wales) in accordance with TAN15. Providing planning related advice in relation to flood risk and drainage, for projects in England and Wales. Supporting and delivering technical assessments, utilising in-depth knowledge of hydraulic modelling and hydrological assessments. Developing solutions and assessing options for flood risk mitigation Supporting, managing, or directing the delivery of high-quality projects to programme and budget requirements. Working closely and effectively with clients, design teams, and stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes. Preparing fee proposals and tenders and undertaking business development activities. Supporting and mentor junior staff. Fostering close working relationships with colleagues and clients, working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams. Qualifications and experience The successful candidate will be dynamic, well organised, motivated and flexible, with a passion for water and the environment and strong analytical and problem-solving skills. The right candidate will be an organised self-starter, who manages their own workload and that of others. They will be able to balance priorities, work on their own initiative and a pragmatic thinker. Applicants should have a geography, science or engineering related qualification, degree or equivalent. Chartered status (ICE, CIWEM) is important to our client to be able to demonstrate experience of working in the UK development and planning sector. Therefore, applicants should ideally be chartered or close to achieving chartership. Core knowledge, skills and experience should include the following: Experience of preparing and coordinating complex FRA's and/or FCA's. Expertise in hydraulic modelling using widely used hydraulic modelling software such as Flood Modeller, TUFLOW and HEC-RAS. Experience in hydrological analysis using Flood Estimation Handbook methodologies. Excellent technical report writing skills and verbal communication skills, to explain complex technical issues to non-specialists. Work winning skills and experience. Quality assurance and review expertise. Project management, including contract and commercial awareness. Excellent knowledge and awareness of the UK planning process and policy. Familiarity in working in GIS and CAD formats. Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office (e.g. Word/Excel). A full UK driving licence will be essential for the role. Desirable skills for the role include: Experience preparing outline drainage strategies. Mentoring skills. Team leadership skills. Quality assurance and review expertise.
