The Role

We are currently recruiting for a forensic examiner to join our fantastic marks and traces team at our site based at our EFS Midlands facility in Tamworth. If you are passionate about a rewarding career in forensic testing and want to use your expertise to its full potential, then this is a great opportunity to join a well-established and successful market-leading company with over 30 years’ experience in providing forensic services to the Police forces of England and Wales, as well as other commercial organisations and public sector bodies.

This is a truly exciting time to begin or continue your career with our first-class business. As a Forensic Examiner, you will be responsible for the examination of exhibits for a range of particulates (e.g., glass, GSR, paint) and non-particulates (e.g., footwear marks, other marks, noxious and corrosive substances). The examiner role is responsible for the completion of the examination work and/or analysis of samples, following strategies and instructions set by reporting scientists. Although rarely requested, this role occasionally requires the production of a suitable witness statement and attendance at Courts of Law.

Due to the highly sensitive nature of the work, applicants should note that security clearance is required for this role. To gain security clearance, you must have five years of continuous residency in the UK. Security clearance is undertaken by a third party to police personnel vetting standards (NPPV/3 and SC), and any criminal convictions may prevent you from gaining security clearance. Further information on the security clearance process and requirement can be found at

this link . In addition, all successful applicants will be required to undertake drug and alcohol testing prior to commencing employment.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

Examine a variety of exhibits to standard operating procedure requirements and within required turnaround times.

Assist in laboratory and exhibit management.

Complete/project manage validation research projects, including the production of reports.

Undertake some facilities support in-team, such as exhibit management, laboratory cleaning, and stock control.

The Ideal Candidate:

We are looking for someone with a Grade A-C in English, Maths, and Science and ideally an A-level or equivalent in a scientific subject. This is an entry-level role and full training will be given.

Other desirable attributes include:

Demonstrating good communication and organisational skills.

Having high levels of resilience and flexibility and the ability to work to deadlines.

Communicate and work proactively with others (both colleagues and customers), focusing on a collective goal.

The right person to thrive in this role will be highly motivated, enthusiastic, and possess the competence and team spirit to support others and contribute to a positive culture. Here at EFS, integrity and customer focus are at the heart of everything we do, and the ability to own issues and actively support their resolution alongside embracing continuous improvement with active involvement would be a distinct advantage and will see you excel in this role.

If you have previous experience in a laboratory or commercial forensic setting, or can demonstrate involvement in equivalent knowledge, then we would love to hear from you.
