About LAS Literature Alliance Scotland [LAS] is a membership network bringing together writers, publishers, librarians, literature organisations and national cultural bodies. LAS was formed in spring 2015 as successor to the Literature Forum for Scotland. In 2006, the Literature Forum was formally recognised as a national Advisory Council for Literature. In mid-2014, Literature Forum members decided to review the organisation’s future role and to consider how it should develop to become a stronger and more inclusive voice for literature and languages in Scotland and abroad. The 2023-24 programme of work,

Building Sustainability , draws on the recommendations set out in the LAS Organisational Review. Funding is now in place for a programme of work for delivery between winter 2024 and spring 2026. Current situation Literature Alliance Scotland operates in a complex context. Both arts funding and industry practices present challenges at the present time, and funding and income streams for writers and freelance workers are in an ongoing crisis. There is a clear requirement for a strong voice for the literature sector, and we recognise that LAS requires development to ensure it is effective as a key advocacy structure for a sector in crisis. The Project Literature Alliance Scotland seeks an individual to help reposition LAS and ensure its sustainability for the future. You will support them to work with the membership and wider sector to understand how best to deliver value. You will work with Literature Alliance Scotland trustees to ensure the organisation is properly constituted and resources are in place to support delivery against the sector’s aspirations. Key tasks • Lead on planning implementation of remaining actions from LAS’s strategic review, ensuring appropriate sector consultation for agreement by Trustees • Manage the implementation process • Carry out information gathering and mapping to ensure LAS’s grasp of the sector remains secure • Manage programmes as relevant • Direct delivery of facilitation/cascaded training, individual support, and networking • Fundseeking for future programmes. About you Experience You will have: • Proven project management experience, including in contexts of change • Proven experience of budget planning • A track record of successful fundraising • Experience of working with a trustee board or similar governance framework • Experience of working with diverse stakeholder groups Skills and knowledge You will have: • First-rate communications skills (written and verbal) • Sound understanding of the literature sector in Scotland • Sound understanding of Equalities, Diversity, and Inclusion. Contract : 5 days per month over 16 months at £250/day (total value £20,000), worked flexibly. Travel/out-of-pocket expenses will be reimbursed subject to appropriate authorisation. You will be required to hold appropriate professional indemnity insurance. Literature Alliance Scotland anticipates you will work from home or other preferred base. Some travel will be required.
