Being a Swimming Teacher is a rewarding role within Leisure. Your skills as a Swimming Teacher will help to shape and grow future generations swimming ability and guide participants into aquatic pathways. It is a fun and engaging role at the centre of your community where you can help to bring health and wellbeing to your local area.
We know taking a step into your first step into leisure or a side-ways step in leisure can be daunting, so we are now offering opportunity for candidates to undertake the STA Award qualification- the course will develop your vocational and technical knowledge, under our in-house approved training centre.
The STA Award course will cover subject knowledge such as:
- Safeguarding Children, Young People and Vulnerable Adults
- Planning, Delivering, Assessing and Evaluating Swimming Lessons
- Understand a Swimming Teacher’s Role
- Understanding the Health and Safety Requirements for an Aquatic Environment
- Understanding the Scientific and Learning Theories Relevant to Swimming Teaching
The STA award is subject to end-point assessment- with both a practical and theoretical assessment.
The role of a Swimming Teacher:
People of all abilities and ages are welcome at our centres, and as a Swimming Teacher you will run sessions effectively and efficiently, drawing on your knowledge of teaching best practices, and your passion for ensuring students reach their full potential, at every step. You will need to be flexible in your approach to teaching, and your approach to working hours, to suit the needs of the business.
Once you are qualified and commence your employment you responsibilities will include:
- Preparing lesson plans and a comprehensive scheme of work that meets the requirements of Fusion’s Swim Programme.
- Undertaking sessions according to the programme timetable, and ensuring classes commence and finish at the designated times.
- Maintain excellent relationships with our customers and potential customers, putting people at ease.
- You will comply with the Fusion’s Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct at all times, and ensure all concerns of a child safeguarding nature are referred in a timely and appropriate manner, in accordance with Fusion’s Safeguarding policy.
- You will ensure all lessons are delivered safely and effectively, delivered to a standard that complies with regulations and guidance.
- You will be passionate about always looking for ways to improve our swim lesson programme and better our service to swimmers and customers

What we are looking for:
No experience is necessary, however in order to be considered for a STA Funded Training opportunity with Fusion you need to commit to pre-agreed course dates, a Fusion Learning Agreement (T&C’s apply) and a minimum of 6 contracted hours post successful course completion.
To be considered for a funded training opportunity with Fusion, you will be required to undertake an interview selection process and attend a pre-booked observation session at a Fusion centre.
