Derriford Centre for Health & Wellbeing has created an exciting new role as a general assistant. This varied role will include working in all areas of DCHW. The ideal candidate will have a can-do attitude and be adaptable, flexible, and have a positive and friendly attitude. Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as ‘Priority’ and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification. Main duties of the job
To provide the highest level of customer care & service through participation in all departments in DCHW. To support wellbeing initiatives and activities. To assist with general administration tasks. Assist the lounge team with the service of food and refreshments ensuring the lounge is as clean as possible. Serve & present food & beverages quickly & efficiently meeting the standards required. To be fully conversant with & assist customers with information regarding allergens in food. Assist with the setting up & breaking down of meeting/event furniture. Work in accordance with all Centre policies, including licensing, food safety/hygiene & allergen policies and refer to Duty Manager as required. Maintain cleanliness of internal & external coffee shop/lounge areas at all times ensuring a tidy, clean & welcoming social area for customers. Ensure the safe use of equipment and cleaning materials within the centre by self and junior members of staff. Train & mentor new colleagues recording appropriate milestones/progress in training pack. Write up daily specials on blackboard recording accurate nutritional information. Maintain accurate stock records for all disposables, carrying out weekly stocktakes. Inform Lounge supervisor of stock required. Report equipment & maintenance defects to Duty Manager. Set up meeting room refreshments as required, under supervision. Prepare & deliver light refreshments/snacks to meeting/function rooms both in the Centre & throughout the hospital site. On occasion you may be required to prepare food & snacks adhering to food hygiene regulations, under supervision. Be responsible for checking in deliveries ensuring goods match delivery note and are stored appropriately. Be fully conversant with lunch & specials menus and pre-ordering processes. Clean crockery, cutlery etc. manually & using dishwasher for functions & daily service. Be familiar with, adhere to all Centre policies, including food safety/hygiene & allergen. Be involved & contribute to team meetings. Act in a welcoming and helpful way as the first point of contact in DCHW, be confident in managing a wide variety of visitors and range of queries, face to face and on the phone. Be able to use Outlook to monitor email boxes for club members’ queries, take food orders for The Lounge and make room bookings. Use the ‘Clubwise’ IT system to ensure members register into the centre successfully, to process new memberships and close accounts of those leaving and to take payments for activities or refreshments. Cash up at the end of the shift. Manage the electronic signing in and out of site contractors and issue and return passes and keys. Support, as necessary, DCHW with wellbeing initiatives. Support the accommodation team as required with bookings, arrivals and access. Person specification
Qualifications
Educated to GCSE level 3-9 (A – D) in Maths & English or equivalent demonstrable experience. Basic food hygiene certificate or equivalent proven knowledge and demonstrable experience. Knowledge & Experience
Working with a wide cross-section of the general public. Appreciation of customer care practices. Experience of cleaning and food handling procedures. The ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people. Friendly & efficient communicator with the ability to provide excellent customer service.
