As General Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of sales and operations, driving growth, and nurturing a talented team out of their Nottingham depot. You will have overall responsibility for the P&L for all depot operations, including used vehicle sales and an HGV workshop. H&S and site overheads are also part of the role. Collaboration with all departments is key to the success of this role. Your leadership will help mature and guide their team while maintaining a focus on operational excellence and high-performance standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and execute strategic plans to drive growth and achieve financial targets. You will be a key stakeholder in the business, responsible and accountable for the depot's P&L. Champion a health & safety culture across the depot, promoting a healthy workplace and colleague wellbeing. Act as a brand ambassador and build the used truck brand in the retail environment. Work towards the position of selling 80% of used vehicles through the retail channel. Ensure that the workshop is highly utilised and efficient. Identify end-of-life vehicles from the existing fleet to be defleeted and sold. Manage budget and used vehicle sales targets. Report to the Board providing updates on financial performance, operational efficiency, and growth progress.
Experience & Expertise You Will Bring:
A proven track record in managing a depot and overseeing all aspects of site maintenance and health and safety. Commercial awareness. Demonstrated great business judgement. Strong negotiation skills - maximising added value and profitability. Effective influencing skills with company stakeholders. Strong understanding of the HGV industry and fundamental knowledge of vehicles. Creative thinker - identifies multiple options to ensure success. Ability to manage up and down effectively. Outcome-focused - delivers the annual budget in line with key objectives. Understanding of residual values in commercial assets. Strong leadership skills with the ability to coach and develop a relatively young team. Experience in managing complex operations with quick turnaround times. Transport Management CPC qualification (or be prepared to work towards). Ideally, previous experience in a similar role.
