Position: General Manager & Senior Stylist

Salary: Negotiable, Based on Experience and Skills

About the role

The General Manager oversees the daily operations of the hair salon, ensuring high standards of service, profitability, and customer satisfaction. This is a hands on role and the General Manager will be expected to also provide hairdressing services for customers as needed whilst managing a team of stylists, beauticians, and support staff while driving sales, maintaining budgets, and ensuring a positive, professional atmosphere in the salon.

Key Responsibilities

1. Team Management

  • Supervise and support hair salon staff: Lead a team and provide exceptional customer service.
  • Performing salon services for customers as needed
  • Recruitment and onboarding: Hire, train, and onboard new employees, ensuring they understand salon standards, service protocols, and health & safety practices.
  • Schedule management: Create and manage staff schedules to meet customer demand while controlling labour costs.
  • Performance reviews: Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide constructive feedback, and foster professional development for team members.

2. Customer Service

  • Customer satisfaction: Resolve any client complaints or issues in a timely and professional manner, ensuring customer loyalty and satisfaction.
  • Service quality: Monitor and maintain high service quality standards, making sure all staff members follow salon protocols.
  • Upselling services: Train team members on product knowledge and upselling techniques to enhance client experience and increase revenue.

3. Financial Management

  • Sales targets: Set and achieve monthly, quarterly, and annual revenue targets through team incentives and promotions.
  • Inventory management: Oversee ordering and restocking of salon supplies, manage inventory levels to reduce waste and costs.
  • Budgeting and cost control: Monitor budgets, control expenses, and maximise profitability without compromising quality.

4. Salon Operations and Maintenance

  • Health and safety compliance: Ensure that the salon adheres to all health and safety regulations, including proper sterilisation, cleanliness, and sanitation procedures.
  • Equipment maintenance: Schedule regular maintenance of salon tools and equipment to ensure they remain in safe and working condition.
  • Salon appearance: Maintain a clean, welcoming, and professional environment that reflects the salon's brand.

5. Marketing and Promotions

  • Promotional campaigns: Coordinate marketing efforts, including special promotions, seasonal discounts, and events to attract and retain clients.
  • Social media management: Oversee social media presence and online reputation by creating content, sharing updates, and engaging with clients.
  • Community engagement: Build relationships with local businesses and communities to drive traffic and enhance the salon's visibility.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience: Previous experience in salon management or a related leadership role in the beauty industry.
  • Technical Skills: Familiarity with salon management software and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Customer Service: Strong focus on client satisfaction and problem-solving.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with staff, clients, and stakeholders.
  • Leadership Abilities: Proven ability to motivate, inspire, and lead a team to meet performance targets.
  • Financial Acumen: Knowledge of budgeting, inventory control, and cost management.
  • Creativity: Ability to conceptualise and implement marketing campaigns and promotions that align with the brand.

Working Conditions

  • Hours: Full-time, Tuesday up to and including Saturday, may include evenings.

Performance Indicators

  • Customer Satisfaction: Positive client feedback and low complaint rates.
  • Financial Metrics: Meeting or exceeding monthly and annual revenue targets.
  • Employee Retention and Satisfaction: Low turnover and positive employee feedback.
  • Operational Efficiency: Cleanliness, organisation, and inventory control within budget.
