Due to retirement and our increasing list size, the team at the Maltings Surgery has an exciting opportunity for a General Practice Nurse to join an outstanding, award-winning practice and develop new skills whilst being supported by a friendly and innovative team. Serving nearly 19,000 patients on one site in the heart of St Albans shopping centre with its range of shops, cafes, and restaurants. We are part of the Abbey Primary Care Network (PCN) formed on a mutual values basis, between two collaborative neighbouring GP Practices in St. Albans and London Colney. The individual will receive significant support from the Clinical team to develop in this role. You will be responsible for the delivery of general practice nursing to the whole practice population. The focus of the role is both the delivery of evidence-based practice for patients presenting with long-term conditions and the provision of preventative healthcare to the practice population. Main duties of the job

Conduct chronic disease management, particularly in asthma and COPD clinics. Perform diagnostic and monitoring tests, such as spirometry (if trained). Educate patients on managing their respiratory conditions and promote self-care. Administer vaccinations, including flu and pneumococcal immunisations. Carry out general practice nursing duties, including wound care, cervical cytology, and health checks. Work collaboratively with the team to improve respiratory care pathways and patient outcomes. The Nursing Team: Our long-standing nursing team consists of a Lead Practice Nurse, three Practice Nurses, a Nursing Associate, and a HCA. We are a friendly team and work together in a supportive environment to care for patients. We are looking for an individual who fits well into the team and is willing to learn. We are a large Practice and focus on the needs of our local people. We are a strong, well-established, and supportive team including an expanding team of GPs, Nurses, Pharmacists, Paramedics, other ARRS clinical roles, Patient Care Advisors (Reception), management, and secretarial teams. Job responsibilities

Job Description To provide clinical nursing service and support to other professionals and to patients of the practice including treatment, screening, chronic disease management, and advice within the professional competence of the post holder. Support and work effectively within the clinical team. Job Responsibilities The following are the core responsibilities of the Practice Nurse. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks. This will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels: Obtaining blood samples Electrocardiograms (ECGs) Minor and complex wound management including leg ulcers and removal of sutures Travel health advice and vaccinations Child immunisations and advice Family planning & women’s health including cervical smears Screening and helping patients to manage long-term conditions Complete asthma/peak flow readings/spirometry Previous Experience: Proven experience in a primary care or community setting. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Willingness to undertake further training for the advancement of the service where required. It would be desirable for a nurse who has experience in general practice with a special interest in respiratory; however, these conditions are not essential. Able to plan and organise, setting and maintaining goals and high standards for themselves and others. Use EMIS or other clinical systems. Person Specification

Qualifications

Registered Nurse with a current NMC registration. Experience

Good working knowledge of infection control procedures, protocols, and guidance. Knowledge of evidence base and current best practice in primary care including health promotion strategies, self-care, and prevention. Knowledge and experience in managing respiratory conditions (e.g., asthma/COPD). Spirometry training or willingness to undertake training. Post-basic qualifications in primary care related nursing practice including chronic disease management. The post holder should have experience in cervical cytology and immunisations.
