Job offered by: The Law Society

Category:
The Law Society is the professional body for solicitors in England and Wales. Our Governance Officers support our elected and appointed members, who are solicitors drawn from a wide variety of legal practice and sectors of the community and help shape the direction and views of the Law Society. In this role you will be one of the Governance Officers within the Legal Policy Directorate responsible for providing an excellent secretariat service to our expert policy advisory committees. The committees you will support are primarily the Access to Justice Committee, Civil Justice Committee, and the Housing Law Committee. This may be subject to change depending on capacity across Governance Officers within the wider Directorate. Governance Officers also cover for one another on an ad-hoc basis during periods of annual leave or sickness. In this role you will be primarily responsible for scheduling and making all necessary arrangements for the meetings of the above committees. This will include drafting agendas, minutes and action lists, and collating and distributing meeting materials electronically. You will keep accurate records of committee activity and respond to queries in between meetings. You will also assist with some of the processes for appointing the Society’s members to the committees. What we're looking for

The ideal candidate will be highly organised and will have experience of preparing and supporting the running of large formal meetings. A knowledge of law and/or governance is not essential for this role but would be helpful particularly in dealing with the more technical aspects of committee business. You will have experience of taking minutes and will have excellent written and verbal communication skills. You will need to be able to pay attention to detail while managing competing priorities. You will have experience of working with senior stakeholders, ideally with those who, like our elected and appointed members, are managing their voluntary commitments to us alongside often busy professional lives. You will have IT literacy. We use MS Office 365 (including MS Teams for virtual meetings and collaboration). Appropriate training will be provided. If you enjoy working in a fast-paced, stimulating policy environment, have prior experience of governance and believe this could be the right next role for you, please get in touch. What's in it for you

This is an excellent opportunity to work with contemporary thinkers in a progressive membership organisation. The successful candidate will join a strong brand with a reputation for excellence and legal expertise, committed to promoting equality, diversity and inclusion, and a culture of trust, excellence, clarity and respect. We offer hybrid working, a generous flexible benefits package, a friendly working environment and the opportunity to develop your career within a professional organisation.
