£29,580 (+15% Market Skills Allowance, reviewed annually) The Noise and Vibration Division (NVD) of the RAF Centre of Aerospace Medicine (CAM) provides specialist scientific support to the RAF and wider MOD. From conducting occupational and environmental noise and vibration surveys to analysing data, writing reports, and presenting MOD courses, the work we do is varied, engaging, and key to fulfilling the broader aims of the NVD. That’s where you come in. The role We’re looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our small team to complete two primary streams of work. First is occupational noise and whole-body vibration assessments (WBV) and environmental noise modelling. You’ll be required to survey aircrew in-flight noise and WBV exposure as well as groundcrew noise. This aspect of the role looks to test for and mitigate against Noise Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL) and other problems. The second focus is Military Aviation Noise Contour (MANC) mapping, which is more aligned with the Environmental Protections Act (EPA). You’ll use specialist computer software to produce a range of noise contour maps around military airfields and provide direct support to the department’s core functions. As well as the above, you’ll assist Subject Matter Experts and give presentations on noise and vibration related MOD courses to a range of audiences each year. Who we’re looking for… With a STEM-related degree, you’ll have specialist scientific knowledge and be excellent with numbers. Actively interested in acoustics, you’ll be confident talking about the subject to a variety of people from colleagues and senior staff to stakeholders. Organised and diligent, you’re capable of managing a diverse workload, from survey planning to equipment calibration, leading survey teams, and distributing analysis throughout the department. Your excellent communication and interpersonal skills will allow you to efficiently and effectively adjust to a busy work schedule and integrate yourself well with a dynamic team. What we offer in return As well as excellent learning and development opportunities, we offer a comprehensive benefits package including generous annual leave, civil service pension scheme eligibility, flexible working options, and a variety of reward and recognition schemes. On top of this, you’ll be part of a friendly, accommodating environment where you can always be yourself and maximise your potential with the opportunity to undertake external courses and qualifications.
