Graduate Application Software Engineer

Job offered by: ITDev

Southampton, United Kingdom | Posted on 13/01/2025

You love building software applications and want to start your career with a company that is as committed to your professional development as you are.

Joining our Software Engineering team gives you the opportunity to use your programming skills to develop technology that has a positive impact on millions of people every day. We work with our customers to develop software, systems, and electronic products, so you will work on supporting technologies such as mobile apps, cloud apps, client/server systems, and APIs, as well as developing the systems that run our business.

We are looking for Graduates to start work in Summer/Autumn 2025, so please only apply if this is right for you. You also need to already be fully eligible to work in the UK as we are not looking to sponsor work permits at this time.

As part of a small, friendly, supportive team, you're going to learn quickly and be given all the help you need to make a success of your career as an Application Software Engineer. We provide in-depth, structured training. You will have your own personal development plan, a mentor, your IET membership fees paid, and be supported to achieve professional growth, e.g., becoming a Chartered Engineer.

Our company culture and way of working was recognised at the South Coast Tech Awards where we won the 'Tech Employer of the Year' category in 2019 and were finalists again in 2023 and 2024, with special mention given to our ongoing commitment to professional development.

About you

You're going to be using your skills in C++ or Python to develop applications that allow our customers to set up, manage, and control their tech products. You're going to be working on a variety of projects at different stages of the development lifecycle, so will be gaining experience in all aspects of application design, implementation, testing, and support.

We're looking for people who love problem-solving; who bring a new approach; who think "there must be a better way".

We're interested in hearing from you if you are on course to achieving a 2:1 or 1st for a bachelor's or master's degree at a top university - perhaps in software, computer science, or a closely related discipline.

You will need to have experience of high-level application development using languages like C++, Python, and SQL, and will have knowledge of revision control systems. You will have developed some of the following: user interfaces, client/server applications, web-based apps, desktop apps, mobile apps, or databases.

Our recruitment process assesses your logical problem-solving approach and tests your technical skills. We focus on your skills and aptitude, not just the qualifications you have.

You need to be eligible to work in the UK and willing to work in our Southampton office most days. We offer flexibility and hybrid working once you are trained, but you need to be able to visit the office regularly for training, meetings, and to work with your colleagues.

Pay and benefits

Salary £34 - 38k. Reviewed every 6 months in the first two years.

Uncapped annual profit share scheme. You are eligible for this from day 1 of your employment (pro-rated in the first year).

25 days holiday (plus bank holidays). Option to purchase or sell up to 5 days' holiday.

We are IET Business Partners, so pay your membership fees and can help you on the path to becoming a Chartered Engineer.

You will have a mentor who will help you with your personal development objectives.

Learning and development support. We assess your development needs and support you to develop your knowledge and skills further. We offer training, including access to online courses using Pluralsight and Udemy.

Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) to help our staff keep physically and mentally healthy and safe whilst at work.

Other benefits including Perks At Work, Employee Recognition Programme, Long Service Awards, Payroll Giving Scheme, and several more!
