The Graduate Design Engineer will work alongside other engineers and internal company personnel to engineer final design solutions, develop conceptual designs, support existing products and perform testing/analysis of new and existing products.

Key responsibilities

Participate in mechanical product design including product specifications, material selection and CAD design. Produce 3D models and manufacturing drawings using Autodesk Inventor. Produce design calculations using MathCAD Prime. Interface with other company departments to ensure effective communication. Reporting of technical issues to the Engineering Manager. Deal with technical queries from customers and suppliers. Ensure company policies are upheld and implement new policy requirements. Support the sales department and promote the company. Uphold the Balltec Quality & HSE Procedures. Office-based role during the graduate training period.

Education & Experience

Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related subject (required). Good IT skills, e.g. Microsoft Office applications. Good written and verbal communication skills. Right to work in the UK (required). Unfortunately, Balltec are unable to sponsor visas. Full UK driving license (preferred, not required).

Required skills

Experience of Computer Aided Design (Autodesk Inventor preferred), although training will be provided. Experience of Finite Element Analysis, although in-house training will be provided. Proficient in the use of engineering principles such as stress-strain and beam theory and the ability to produce calculations to support the design of critical components. Excellent communications skills – must interface successfully with other engineers, non-technical personnel and with customers to define and implement solutions. Demonstrated initiative in solving challenging problems. Ability to rapidly learn new concepts with little to no supervision.
