Graduate or Experienced Equine Vet at Paragon Veterinary Group, Penrith, Cumbria
Have you ever wanted to work in the Lakes but thought there were no horses? Due to expanding workload, Paragon Veterinary Group is looking for an equine vet to join their friendly and growing ambulatory team of vets, supported both in the clinic and on the road by 3 experienced equine technicians. Paragon Veterinary Group is an independently owned veterinary practice and active member of XLVets. The equine team is based at Newbiggin, near Penrith, with a wide range of on-site facilities including a stable block, knockdown box, heated examination rooms and theatre, weighbridge, and 23 paddocks, supported by portable DR x-ray, ultrasound, dental power tools, surgical laser, video gastroscope, video respiratory and dental endoscopes, and a therapeutic laser. A diverse caseload is seen with a full range of clients including National Hunt race yards, competition horses, riding schools, pet ponies, and donkeys. Vets are given full clinical freedom to work up cases while being encouraged and supported in developing their own areas of interest. We are a well-respected and busy BEVA approved AI centre, performing chilled and frozen AI during the Spring and Summer months. There are opportunities for teaching as a host practice for clinical rotations for Surrey Vet School and as a popular EMS practice. We host a veterinary dental specialist for advanced dentistry clinics throughout the year and have excellent relationships with a number of nearby referral centres for both orthopaedic and medicine cases. We also provide veterinary cover for local British Eventing Affiliated competitions, unaffiliated Eventing, and British Harness Racing fixtures. Package details - 4.5 day week - Shared rota for equine only out of hours - 25 days annual leave plus 8 bank holidays (time back in lieu for bank holidays worked) - 5 days paid CPD allowance with further qualifications and personal development encouraged - Mentoring support - Private Medical Insurance - Employee Assistance Programme - VDS indemnity cover - RCVS, BVA, and BEVA memberships fully funded - Company car (for private use if needed) and mobile phone Our location near the lovely market town of Penrith, on the edge of the Lake District National Park, provides a fantastic base for walkers, climbers, cyclists, and water sport enthusiasts while having excellent transport links via road and train.
