Graduate Software Development Engineer Salary: £40,000 Holiday allowance: 25 days pro rata plus a personal day What you need: 2:2 degree Location: Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire and Farringdon, London Programme start date: 1 September 2025 Application deadline: This programme has now closed. About the Role Our software engineers continue to lead the way, building technology that can have a real impact on our customers. Our Technology Software Engineering programme will give you exposure to a selection of the latest technologies. It aims to equip you with the right knowledge and skills to become one of our future engineering leaders. You'll be able to bring your knowledge and experience to life, helping us to better serve our customers. We'll also show you how to architect some of the most complex and ambitious software systems being built like the front-end customer experiences and the back-end services that enable them. Using agile principles, you'll learn how to protect customer data, how to automate and how to build large scale systems. You'll experience the breadth of software engineering with the opportunity to spend time in several teams, including our front and back end development teams as well as a placement in Tesco Labs too - the research and development team within Tesco Technology. You'll be paired with other engineers in your team from a range of backgrounds (from other grads to experienced managers) and you'll work closely with your product managers to build software for either our customers or colleagues. Our software engineering teams work across our London and Welwyn offices with the possibility of placements in either location. Who We Are Looking For We're looking for graduates with a passion for technology. Although you require a degree to apply for this role, it's not vital you're studying for a degree in computer science. However, you must be able to demonstrate your ability to write quality coding, which is assessed during the application process. We're looking for individuals who are keen to learn and build their skills, and who enjoy the challenge of working with something new. Working at Our Welwyn Garden City Campus Our leafy, green campus is 10 minutes' walk from the centre of Welwyn Garden City with its many shops, restaurants, pubs and sports facilities. Close to the A1, and with frequent trains running to Finsbury Park in just 20 minutes (free shuttle buses take you between the station and office), the campus is well connected to the surrounding area. On campus, you'll find subsidised restaurants and coffee shops, as well as a Tesco Express to pick up your lunch or last-minute essentials. We also have a place where colleagues can connect and come together, to unlock innovation and collaboration and a place where they can network and socialise. Plus we have an on-site Nuffield Health gym, which has state-of-the-art equipment, studios for classes, plus treatment rooms (membership costs £23.50 per month). Your Experience with Us Induction:

We'll kick off with you spending some time learning more about our business and your programme. It's a great opportunity for you to meet other grads and make some new connections. We'll then introduce you to your team, so you can get to know more about your role and the area you'll be working in. Store Experience:

You'll start off by spending 4 weeks in stores, this is a great opportunity to really understand and get involved in what our colleagues do every day to serve our customers and communities. Programme Structure:

You'll gain a breadth of technology experience and skills as you complete a number of placements in different parts of our department. Where Next?

There are a wide variety of job opportunities for you to apply for as you finish your programme. There's also an opportunity to complete a post-programme senior leader level 7 apprenticeship, with a possibility to top up to an MBA, helping you to accelerate your knowledge, skills and behaviours to help you become a future leader in our business.
