Grid Connection Engineer - Partners Investment Group & Renewables Developer Company Overview We are currently supporting one of our key clients in the search for a Grid Connection Engineer. The business is an established investor who deploys their own capital into a range of renewable developments including CHP, Biomass, wind, solar & BESS projects where they own and operate these assets from an owner-side perspective. As well as pure renewable assets, they are key stakeholders in a number of groundbreaking left-field developments in sustainability-focused businesses such as research and development facilities, vertical farming and wellness brands alike. Job Purpose Support the development team and the Head of Connections in managing the process of connecting our energy projects to the grid. A key contributor to energy project development by using analytical, communication, and project management skills. Role and Responsibilities Assist with identification and qualification of grid capacity that is suitable for electricity storage systems, electricity demand and electricity generation projects within target catchment areas (UK). Support in liaising with grid operators, regulators, and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with grid connection requirements and regulations. Collaborate with internal teams, including engineering, project management, and finance, to ensure timely and cost-effective grid connections. Support in negotiating grid connection agreements and resolving any grid-related issues. Report to the Head of Connections and engage with the wider project development team on grid and electrical engineering related deliverables. Assist in conducting feasibility studies and technical assessments for grid connection options. Monitor and report on grid connection progress and performance. Assist in preparing and submitting grid connection applications and managing the approval process. Stay up to date with applicable regulations and technology development as they relate to grid connections and the development of the energy generation projects. Attend industry engagement conferences and events to maintain relationships with DNOs/IDNOs/TNO/ICPs, and other relevant technology partners the business works with. Skills and Experiences Previous experience in energy project development and particularly the grid connections process and pre-construction development process. Ability to identify grid capacity, create required technical documentation and submit necessary information required for successful grid applications. Desire to take ownership of individual projects and be judged on the project’s success. Comfortable initiating contact and building relationships with the DNOs, TNOs, ICPs, EPCs, and other 3rd party advisors. Understanding of the distribution and transmission grid system and how they relate to energy project development. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of grid connection regulations and energy markets is a plus. Qualifications Degree in electrical engineering, but other disciplines accepted. Full UK driving license. AutoCAD (as in the creation of electrical single line diagrams and similar technical documentation). Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and project management tools.
