The post holder will be responsible for the ongoing development and delivery of a high-quality haemoglobinopathies service across the Trust. They will triage sickle cell patients presenting to King’s College NHS Foundation Trust, coordinating the appropriate care across inpatient, emergency, and day care settings. Responsibilities include providing clinical leadership and practice at an advanced level, demonstrating autonomy and clinical decision-making. The role requires excellent customer care for patients, including communication with distressed and anxious patients and relatives, ensuring the professional image of the Trust is maintained. Flexibility, enthusiasm, and excellent communication skills are essential. Main duties of the job
Provide timely and effective assessment and triaging of patients presenting with sickle cell crisis and Thalassaemia. Support adolescents transferring to the adult Haemoglobinopathies service. Provide expert clinical advice, support, and guidance for patients, carers, and allied healthcare professionals. Work closely with haematologists and other healthcare professionals to initiate timely admission and discharge planning. Facilitate nurse-led discharges and act as a role model in the specialist area. Liaise with relevant A&E staff to optimize treatment pathways for patients. Develop and run nurse-led clinics (e.g., Hydroxycarbamide/Iron Chelation). Support Apheresis in performing emergency procedures as clinically required. Working for our organisation

Education & Qualifications
First level Registered nurse or midwife (with the NMC). Educated to Degree level or above. Relevant post-registration qualification or evidence of professional development. Masters Qualification or willingness to work towards. Knowledge and Experience
Evidence of clinical leadership in patient care and collaborative multidisciplinary team working. Experience of acute sickle cell crisis pain management. Experience of data collection for audits and delivering presentations. Evidence of management of change and development of services. Skills and Competencies
