Who are we looking for?
As our Head of Engineering, you’ll be at the helm, guiding and steering the team towards success. You'll oversee team management, shape the architecture, and take ownership of our AWS serverless infrastructure. From managing releases to prioritising technical debt, you'll bring a sharp technical mind and a collaborative spirit to the role. You'll shape the technical direction and ensure that our solutions are scalable, secure, and future-proof. Team Leadership: Mentor and inspire our three engineering teams, ensuring seamless collaboration across product, design, and testing. Architectural Vision: Drive architectural decisions that balance scalability with sustainability, ensuring our solutions stand the test of time. Release Guru: Oversee smooth and timely product releases, coordinating version control, testing, and risk management. Incident Wrangler: Take charge during major incidents (P1/P2), providing both technical direction and clear communication. Collaboration Master: Champion technical debt prioritization and bridge the gap between DevOps, product, and external partners (like Godel, Prodapt). Recruitment & Budget: Lead recruitment efforts, manage team budgets, and scale our engineering capabilities as the business grows. What you’ll need:
AWS Wizardry: Solid experience with AWS serverless infrastructure (AWS Solution Architect Professional certification or similar is a big plus!). TypeScript Mastery: Extensive knowledge of TypeScript, including Node.js on the backend and React.js on the frontend. Testing Know-How: Experience with automated testing frameworks and managing external engineering teams. Leadership Mojo: A proven track record of leading engineering teams and collaborating across departments. Problem-Solving Pro: Expertise in managing high-scale environments and crafting architectural solutions under pressure. A few things to note:
This is a hybrid role; we require you to be in our Manchester office at least 2 days a week. We do not need agency support; we do all our recruitment in-house.
